Fiction hasn't been able to keep my attention for MANY years (with few exceptions: Richard Bach who wrote Jonathan Livingston Seagull, and other great stories... And Kahlil Gibran... Also POETRY- though mostly because I write as well... And enjoy many themes of the 9 muses which incorporate metaphor, philosophy, allegory, etc).

The reason that most fiction is not able to hold my attention is that I used it to dissociate from a very violent family environment growing up. Being buried in a book perpetually was a great way to lessen myself, and not be here.

I recall one spring break when I was about 14 or so, I read a fiction book a day during spring break. Outside on the swing or under a tree. These were 180-200+ page books, not short reads for an adolescent.
