I tell you are story
My friend belongs to OBC category and belongs to upper middle class, so my friend's sister got 12 thousand rank in IIT advance .since she was a girl in OBC category and more of that they gave the certificate of being poor . 2 they showed that she is the only child in the family . So by doing this her sister got IIT Delhi chemical branch .
While general category has no option to get into good IIT (top 7 engineering branch ) and have to go to nit . Is this promote talented students in country .
One more thing her sister was not that good that why she was left unplaced and after that she got an off campus placement .

60 to 70 percent of students don't have to pay fees as a policy matter besides scholarship and other perks

Case based reservation is dumb.... there's no reason for it to exist.one could argue that caste based reservation is one of the only place caste system still exists. The tution fee waiver is nice in my opinion as i don't think faking income certificates is as simple as that. Or maybe it's not an issue where I live

I am not sure about motivation to write papers in India, but I have to disagree with what was said about writing papers when it comes to US.

Majority faculties in US emphasize (at times in toxic manner) on writing papers more than focusing on quality of research. For example look at the Stanford precedent scandal and Harvard scandal. There are 2 aspects for this.

On professional level, the performance of faculties in US is judged based on the number of papers they publish in a year and the journal IF plays a role in it to some extent. Additionally, these papers are key outcome indicators for ensuring funding agencies that the their money was well spent.

On personal level, most US faculties want to publish papers for fame and act smart in conferences and create a buzz about themselves in the community. Its that simple.

Nowadays even student from wealthy background are competing on reserved posts because of their category status.
Can anyone explain why the son of any group A government officer should compete on reserved posts just because of his category.?

My uncle (general category) grew up in UP and did his 12th grade in Hindi medium. He was among the toppers at IIT Kanpur (Mechanical); did MS and Ph.D. in the US. He worked hard and learned English.

damn! It seems like Harnoor is so full of spite for category students! The only reason he is in the US is becasue he is wealthy enough to afford the US undergrad fee! Isn't that unfair to the poor Indian students who cannot ask their daddy to send them to the US?

I know someone, basically two students from my school who were 1yr senior, just because they have that Sc reservation category, they got into NIT DGP just but getting 66 and 80% respectively. Whereas in spite of me getting 84.6% i couldn't get any literally any. I think it's now a shame borning a general male candidate 🥹🥹🥹

Where General category students have to score within AIR 500 to get IIT Bombay, electrical engineering....a SC student has to score only 10, 000 ....but the engineering curriculum in IIT is designed according to those top AIR students...so it is obviously tremendous difficult for a reservation student to cover up the curriculum.... Sometimes they crack only 3-5 LPA jobs or take off campus jobs after being rejected on campusing....

Why am I linking this video with caste discrimination, you might wonder? You are all highly educated, so let's first delve into the concept of caste. In Punjab, I've observed different Gurudwaras—one for Mazhabi Sikhs, and another for Khatri/Jatt Sikhs. Personally, I was unaware of things like IIT, KVPY, and Ivy League schools until I reached the 12th grade. It's common for people to avoid discussing caste issues.
When viewed from a materialistic perspective, there may be jealousy towards someone belonging to the SC/ST category. However, from the standpoint of social justice, it can be perceived positively. While it is not ideal for individuals from the SC/ST community with higher incomes to conceal their status, this has become more prevalent in recent times. Nowadays, it is seen as a pragmatic approach.
