롱보드와 여행을 사랑하는 롱보더 HYOJOO입니다. 롱보드를 타며, 롱보드여행을 다니며 얻는것,느끼는것들을 좀 더 많은 분들과 공유하고자 합니다:)
South Korean longboarder Ko Hyojoo went viral when Korean-American rapper Kero One reposted her video to Facebook. Her skating videos went viral overnight. Take one glance at her skills and it’s obvious what’s catching everyone’s attention.
She makes dancing on her nine-inch wide longboard look simple – almost. The Goyang native picked up her skateboard exactly three years ago to date. The “super-introverted” Ko needed to “get a hobby” she described. Then proceeded to master the sport in three years.
1. She started to longboard because she had pent-up energy:
“I started in February 2014. I was socially frustrated and was looking for a hobby or an area to focus on and enjoy.”
2. Longboarding isn’t her career, though she does spend her downtime researching other skaters.
“I’m a user interface designer at LINE Korea (messaging app) but in my spare time I like watching other longboarding and skating videos on YouTube.”
3. She thinks the best place in the world to longboard is LA:
“I love boarding near the beach.”
4. Her style is based around longboarding:
“I like to dress casual and sporty. My style is based around skating. That’s why I like knee socks – the various designs give me more control over the styling.”
5. Her favorite Korean brands we should know about?
“SJYP and Steve J & Yoni P are renowned designers in Asia. What they do is super impressive. Plus, they skate. Their designs reflect that – stylish but comfortable.”
6. The best sneaker release in 2016 was undoubtedly:
“Any Nike SB Stefan Janoski.”
7. She starred in Far East Movement’s “Umbrella” music video.
“It was shot in LA and to date, my most beloved video. I’m happiest on my board even if I don’t show you any special skills. That’s it – that’s what this music video shows.”
8. Favorite K-pop artists are:
“Bewhy and Jay Park.”
9. Shooting our HYPEBAE video opened her up to Los Angeles’ underbelly:
“I skated around more secluded places in LA and I felt like I became closer to the city.”
10. In 2017 she’s going to show you another side:
“I’m planning to do something cool with longboarding – I’m going to share my emotions while longboarding. I hope you’re all excited to learn what it is! I also have more vlogs coming soon.”
