I'm reading the book now, , when I was a kid in the 60's and 70's we often drove through LaGrange from Houston on our way to Giddings and when I was 11 in late 73' it was just me and my dad and as we drove by the entrance to the Chicken Ranch pop pointed it out to me.
It had cut trees laid down at the gate to block it off.
I can still see it, , pop said Zindler was a showboat and should have minded his own damn
