Written by Ray Davies - this song was also his first attempt at production - wow. What a classic sound.

Best ballad ever. I have listened to it hundreds of times since it first came out. Never get tired of it.

This song was described on a kinks CD as "impossibly perfect"-I totally agree

Perfection. Possibly the best single from what was probably the best year in what was definitely the best decade of English pop. Paul Weller says this is the song he wishes he had written. David Gilmour I believe likewise. Damon Albarn adores it. Bob Geldof said he had been "chasing that sound for years". It just has something, I don't know what. If I knew what, I'd bottle it and sell it. God save the Kinks.

Hard to argue as possibly, the greatest single of all time!

1967 I was 10 years old, remember listening to this, whilst staring out of the lounge room window. I am 66 years old now and the memory is still vivid. Moved to Australia when I was 14. Still regard the Kinks as one of the greatest bands ever and Waterloo Sunset as possibly the greatest song ever written

Such an atmospheric song that really encapsulates a time and a place.
As an Australian who always dreamt of traveling to London, but didn't manage to travel until their early 50's a few years back... I knew I was in London when I stood at Waterloo Bridge at sunset humming this song to myself with a smile on my face and tears in my eyes.
Absolutely love this song and the kinks, they are so under rated... although, I am a Beatles gal 😉 💜

This takes me back to when I worked in London in the mid 60s - sitting on the Waterloo to Weybridge train late afternoon, with this song playing in my head and looking at the Thames, with the sun starting to go down... brings tears to my eyes - oh those lovely memories. ❤ Thank you for those days!

Dirty old river, must you keep rolling
Flowing into the night?
People so busy, make me feel dizzy
Taxi light shines so bright
But I don't need no friends
As long as I gaze on
Waterloo sunset
I am in paradise

Every day, I look at the world from my window
But chilly, chilly is the evening time
Waterloo sunset's fine (Waterloo sunset's fine)

Terry meets Julie
Waterloo station
Every Friday night
But I am so lazy, don't want to wander
I stay at home at night
But I don't feel afraid
As long as I gaze on
Waterloo sunset
I am in paradise

Every day, I look at the world from my window
But chilly, chilly is the evening time
Waterloo sunset's fine (Waterloo sunset's fine)

Millions of people swarming like flies 'round
Waterloo underground
But Terry and Julie cross over the river
Where they feel safe and sound
And they don't need no friends
As long as they gaze on
Waterloo Sunset
They are in paradise

Waterloo sunset's fine (Waterloo sunset's fine)
Waterloo sunset's fine

Masterpiece, lyrical perfection, vocally perfection. One of the greatest ever records made in Britain, a true masterpiece by Ray Davies. Waterloo Sunset sums up London in 1967 and for me The Kinks were the amongst the very best British bands of the 1960s, if not ever.
