Wow! We lost another legendary actor, Alan Arkin. I first saw him in the 1979 movie, "The In-Laws" co-starring with Peter Falk, and he was sensational in it. Along with that, I remember him in movies like, "Wait Until Dark", "Escape From Sobibor", "Argo", and "Little Miss Sunshine". He was very versatile, and had one heck of a presence. I hope that his legacy as an actor carries on. My condolences to his family members and close friends. Rest in peace Alan, and I hope to meet you in the afterlife.

Our assigned reading in my 9th grade English class in 1968 was The Heart Is A Lonely Hunter. After we read the book our teacher somehow had a copy of the movie on 8mm film and we watched it from a projector over two class periods on a screen pulled down over the blackboard . Pretty adult stuff but I bet there isn't any of us to this day that don't remember that touching, heartbreaking movie with a very young Alan Arkin..

What is so strange is that I hauled out an old DVD called "Indian Summer" this past week to watch. Alan ran a camp in the 60's - 70's and had invited a group back for a visit, hoping one in the group would take over when he retired. It's one of my favorites and very nostalgic.
