Come Lord Jesus. Come Holy Spirit. Come God, Almighty Father. Come save us all from evil.

I’m probably one of the few (nerdy) individuals who love this hymn, and this haunting choral and orchestral version is absolutely MAGNIFICENT. I could listen to it all day. Many places avoid this hymn; I search for it. Resonates with my spirit. SUPERB JOB by the conductor, choir, and orchestra!!! Mama!! 👊🏾

The lyrics date back to AD 275 from the liturgy of Saint James.

Let all mortal flesh keep silence
and with fear and trembling stand;
ponder nothing earthly-minded,
for with blessing in his hand
Christ, our God, to earth descending,
comes our homage to command.

King of kings, yet born of Mary,
as of old on earth he stood,
Lord of lords in human likeness,
in the body and the blood
he will give to all the faithful
his own self for heav’nly food.

Rank on rank the host of heaven
spreads its vanguard on the way
as the Light from Light, descending
from the realms of endless day,
comes the pow’rs of hell to vanquish
as the darkness clears away.

At his feet the six-winged seraph,
cherubim with sleepless eye,
veil their faces to the presence
as with ceaseless voice they cry:
“Alleluia, alleluia!
Alleluia, Lord Most High!”

Thank you. Playing this today as I have once again prayed a Mass alone at home while a funeral for a dear one happens far away and I am in COVID isolation still. You help me through the grief.

This is beautiful! I thought of this hymn after reading this verse: "Are your ears awake? Listen. Listen to the Wind Words, the Spirit blowing through the chambers" (Revelation 3:22 MSG).

Ex-Catholic here but this hymn and others are tattooed on my soul and psyche. They also sonically influence the music I write—-this is a beautifully epic rendition and a great Sunday morning find!🎶🎵

Transcendent. Both the music and, of course, the text.

So exquisitely beautiful- my eyes filled with tears as you all sang this. I love this song, and in this time of the coronavirus pandemic, this brought me a sense of hope and peace🙏🏾

The tune is Picardy, a French carol from the 17th century.
