Maya does end up going to see her mother and the letter cookies writing for her Maya ends up reading it to her while she’s on her deathbed bc her mother could no longer talk, turns out the mother was getting raped by the CO and she wasn’t the only one he was forcing himself on basically pound cake go pregnant and had to give her baby up and the CO was never charged and nothing bad never happened to him so he got away with the abuse and giving up the baby
