Ok so what I'm getting at is that the mom died in the plane crash. Sometime ago because typically a plane crash on the TV isn't live. It's being told a few hours after. So her soul was in denial and she visited her husband and son as if nothing happened. The son drew a picture of the mom falling from the plane. She got upset and told him to go to bed. Then saw the news and the memories came flooding back. So she went to check on her family one last time and accepted her death. At least that's my interpretation.
