In the UK we have a minute of silence every 11th of November to remember the soldiers who lost their lives during WW1 (the war ended on the 11th of November, 1918). Poppies are worn in the UK and other Commonwealth countries on that day as a symbol of the poppies that grew in the former battlefields after the war

When you go home,
tell them of us & say
For your tomorrow,
we gave our today. 🕊

A truly tragic and poignant ending to a great comedy series. I'm not sure the very last seconds of the episode were shown, where the battleground was shown transformed into a field of poppies such as in present days. Very moving. Poppies are worn by millions of people in the UK, on and around Armistice Day, (11th of November, with a two minutes silence at 11am), and also Remembrance Sunday, which is the closest Sunday to the 11th of November, (or possibly the last Sunday before the 11th - I can't remember which, sometimes it can be both of course)
These ceremonies help us to remember all those in the military who lost their lives in wars, initially at least, World War One specifically

My great grandfather who spent the most of the war in the trenches of Ypres covered in filth. He was one for the first to introduce the 761st Black Panthers to the war when the US joined later on. They loved being with the British and French troops as this was an escape from prejudice at home, despite prejudice being ever present in their lives. He had one break, to marry his fiancée in Lille who he knew before the war and was working as a hospital nurse, had one day together in 1916 and straight back to the trench until they reunited back in England in 1919, with my grandfather who was just 2yrs old.

He loved Blackadder Goes Fourth, which was inspired by Dads Army, another comedy classic, which showed the realities of that brutal war. What people went through. What he went though. He cried at the end, but it’s hard not to. He died at 105 and gran went at 103. What a generation, I’m proud to have known them. They inspired me to go into the army. Served in Af and Iraq many times. The greatest generation.

Not sure why you watched this very last piece of the very last series of Blackadder, but out of context it won't mean much. The whole of the UK was in bits after seeing this ending. So poignant.

The scene with them going over the top had to be played in slo-mo because after filming it they realised they only had about 3 seconds of film

Hate when it cuts before you see the poppy field and hear the bird song

You have to watch the whole series this is seminal stuff.
This was massive.
Pure silliness, absurdity, and then the realisation of what they went through .
Shaped my life we don’t look at this clip lightly.
34 years later, my grandad was the prisoner of war in Germany for four years, captured in North Africa. He watched his friends die. He works in two factories in Germany. As a prisoner. Both of them got bombed by us. Of course, he managed to get out both times and he said to me that everyone else inside died. You never told anyone the story apart from me, but he told other stories to other members of family that would shape your life.
He was the funniest man gentlest man that ever met we are not worthy

I'm a fan of your channel (what it do dream team/omg etc, etc.).
I do think that watching this out of context is a bit of a mistake. It's difficult to understand the dynamics between the characters from this scene alone, not to mention the radical shift in tone with these scenes from the rest of the show. I really think it's less poignant this way.

On the otherhand, what do I know?
