Stockholm is the capital of Sweden. It has the most populous urban area in Sweden as well as in Scandinavia. 1 million people live in the municipality, approximately 1.6 million in the urban area, and 2.4 million in the metropolitan area. The city stretches across fourteen islands where Lake Mälaren flows into the Baltic Sea. Outside the city to the east, and along the coast, is the island chain of the Stockholm archipelago. The area has been settled since the Stone Age, in the 6th millennium BC, and was founded as a city in 1252 by Swedish statesman Birger Jarl. It is also the county seat of Stockholm County.

Heres something interesting about the alley which is featured in the thumbnail of the video:

When Jacob Johan Anckarström got arrested in his home by the street “Gamla Brogatan”, close to Hötorget in Stockholm, 10 am in the morning on the 17th of March 1792, after his attempted assassination of King Gustav III 10 hours earlier during the masquerade ball at the Royal Opera House, he got transported to one of Sweden's first building that resembled a “real” police station, in Skeppar Olofs gränd 6. Anckarström was interrogated three stories up. The same day, just a couple of hours later around 4 pm after a successful interrogation, when the darkness had fallen over Stockholm, the black doors opened up and Jacob Johan Anckarström got transported to Wrangelska Palatset (Wrangel Palace) on Riddarholmen, in the Old town, not that far away from this alley, where he would be kept imprisoned and guarded until a week before the day he would be taken to Galgbacken, Hammarbyhöjden to be beheaded.

I actually got the chance to see one of the basements named "Anckarströms hålor" in Wrangelska Palatset where Jacob Johan Anckarström was believed to have been imprisoned until a week before his execution, and I do have some pictures of it if anyone is interested (it can be found on me and my friend's history account on Instagram named "Swedenshistory", and the post where you can read more about this was made on October 4, 2021). However, Anckarström wasn't imprisoned in that exact basement, but instead he was imprisoned in another basement somewhere else in Wrangelska Palatset. In other words, same palace, but not the same basement. Interesting nonetheless!

We have passed that alley few times when we went there and never tried to walk in thinking it maybe some private property. Didn’t know it would be surprise to see that circle😍. Very nice!

Loved this walk through the Old Town. I've been to Stockholm a lot but have only been to Gamla Stan once on a boozy night out! Most of my trips have been more like working holidays - work being acapella music and the holiday part eating and drinking more than sightseeing! My friend did his National Service in the Swedish Army Drum Corps and wrote a piece of music that's still performed by them at ceremonial occasions! He used to guard the Palace about 15 years ago! This walk has made it into my Top ten - loved the atmosphere!
