South Korea announced that it would resume using loudspeakers to blast propaganda toward the North. It was described as a response to Pyongyang sending more than 300 balloons carrying trash across the border on June 9, 2024. For decades, both sides have used balloons and amplified sound in their propaganda campaigns. The latest events have spiralled into a geopolitical tit-for-tat.

North Korea made a mistake in this case. The trash balloons certainly don’t improve the opinion of South Koreans towards North Korea. Additionally, SK is now resuming blasting music and other news to NK, which might actually make the North Korean people to rethink about SK. So it seems like the trash balloons strategy is backfiring on NK.
