As an opera singer, she slayed those melismas and stood upon the corpses of her adversaries. (Dramatically and with flourish, of course.)

I like to think that my grasp of the english language is better then most considering I practically grew up in school libraries. I'm talking in the morning before class started, during every recess and every lunch break, as well as everyday after school ended (for as long as they'd let me stay anyways 😅). I have however never heard the word "melisma" until today. I did try looking it up, but the definition was rather confusing 🤷🏻‍♂️😂! However your explanation was so clear and made immediate sense to me, so thanks a bunch for that 😁👍🏻!!!

I always made a big deal of the melismas in the songs I taught my elementary-schoolers. Most performances of our National Anthem have mistakes in the melismas.
