iEX 2022: Innovation in Mental Health

The goal of VA mental health care is to support recovery, enable Veterans who experience mental health problems to live meaningful lives in their communities, and for Veterans to achieve their full potential. In this panel, speakers described a healthy road to recovery that offers Veterans the choice of what their path looks like and the freedom to make their own decisions about their care.

In mental health care, human-centered design is the most important piece of the puzzle. As treatments are developed, innovators must include patients in the design process to develop successful mental health technology. These innovations must be integrated into care teams and then into the larger health systems in an easily digestible way. The most successful mental health innovation partnerships can be built when agencies identify their definition of innovation and cement it into their culture.
