I'd like to see you engrave glass. There are a few different ways you can do this. Easiest way is to have a sheet of black craft paper beneath it and then flip the engraving backwards as it will engrave where the paper is. Next easiest, and probably more reliable, is a matte black spray paint like chalkboard spray paint. On the top. After engraving, you can clean it off with acetone etc. It creates a tone of microfractures leaving a clouded appearance. The issue that you can run into with using a diode laser on glass is over-heating it and causing it to actually Crack. So it would be cool to see some settings with this specific laser engraver that work for you.

I’d love to know what the max depth it can cut wood and acrylic (opaque), even in multiple passes. They advertise the max engraving depth as 8mm but not sure if that’s the same for cutting things like wood.

Make sure to use materials that are suitable for use with laser engravers since some leathers and other materials can put off toxic fumes.

I backed it based on your livesteam, despite being quite nervous about the state of safety with inexpensive laser cutter/engravers.

There are a boatload of enclosures for these out there and I'll definitely be getting one. From what I know, the one thing I'd say is to really thoroughly research any new material before engraving or cutting it. Lots of unexpected reactions are possible. I'm sure lots of folks have told you you have to be really careful to only use vegetable-tanned leather, but that kind of gotcha is really easy to stumble on. Be especially careful with using it on paints. Lots of stuff is stable and safe until it meets the unstoppable power of *LASERS*.

I ordered one but I am a bit worried about the eye protection, it is pretty lackluster. Perhaps the cheap glasses combined with the orange glass pane is enough?

Acrylic sheets, mainly cutting but also engraving. I really want to back this but want to see if it can handle that, so I can make custom enclosure parts for my PC

Acrylic? Try some acrylic! Also, 3D prints? Can you use it on low power to maybe add in some details for cosplay prints? Regardless, thanks for the awesome content!
