A look at vintage UK CB radio magazines from 1981

I thought it would be interesting to look at a couple of magazines from just before CB radio was legal in the UK. It's interesting to see news items about sets that were going to be UK legal come November. Plenty of prototype mock-ups & 'artist impression' stuff that never happened.

Nice to look at accessory prices.

Great video Richard, took me right back. £199 for teletext. I'm 57 so my parents rented their television back in the day later on some of the more better models had the service built in. It was great. Love some of the old radio's before it was legalised in the UK. Fond memories. My first radio was midland 3001 and a dipole. Thank you Richard. All the best.

Richard the radio monitor at 5:34 in this video I got one for my birthday probably that year, never got any CB reception on the thing but I could listen to wicker's world on i think it was Sunday night bbc 1 or 2
I confirm this by getting out of bed, going down stairs to show my parents only to find them quickly pushing me back upstairs whilst my were fix on the TV as MR Wicker looked like he was sat in a jacuzzi with lot's of pretty ladies 😂
The TV reception lasted a few episodes and then stopped the other signal I got was the " we think radar at Manchester Airport " and normal entertainment radio 📻
Happy days 👍🏻

Another interesting video - thank you for sharing it with us. It would be interesting to know what the circulation figures were for the magazines you featured?

Best wishes and 73's.

Used to get that magazine back then, also had one of those monitor radios with TV CB Air etc I used to take that to school to listen in on AM & on one occasion after break I had gone to an English lesson but I had forgotten to switch off the radio the aerial was down and the radio in my bag, to set the scene the class was quiet and everyone was writing all of a sudden a loud announcement blast's out, "19 anyone want to buy a complete set up" ! pens get thrown in fright I get told off lol by the teacher and a lad in class shouts out "that was my dad selling that rig" they lived at the back of the school hence the good signal lol😂.

interestingly VHF 405 line transmission from Crystal Palace did not cease until 1985 so vhf tv sound reception was possible at the time, and you can possibly figure out how I know!! great video mate.
