I lived in Germany for many years, Glühwein is usually available during the xmas holidays, this is why it's available at Aldi's during this time of year. It is usually found at the Kriskindl Markt (Christmas Market), where I would get a glass to keep warm in the cold. You can add a slice of orange and cinnamon sticks when warming to enhance the flavor.

In Sweden it´s called Glögg. Traditionally it´s Red wine, spiced with raisins, ginger, cinnamon, kardemum, cloves and bitter orange peel. But the variation of it is great, i.ex. white wine, applewine, cloudberry and even such as raspberry licorice. It´s popular to drink during the winter with a peak around christmas. Gingersnaps with blue cheese is a common thing to eat with it aswell as saffron buns. And we usually drink it in small dedicated glöggmugs, in the size of espresso cups.

Here in Sweden we add raisins and almonds to our warm mulled wine. Its really nice. 🙂

Aldi has so much amazing stuff that most people just don't realize is there. Personally, I love picking up a pack of Warsteiner beer in warmer months. So good.

BTW, my old German teacher taught us that to pronounce ü we should make our mouth into a round shape like we're saying "ooo", but then try to make an "eeh" sound. The memory of so many students making faces while struggling to make that sound still brings on the giggles.

Awesome! My ex-wife lived in Germany for a while and turned me on to it. She pronounced it, "glue-vine". I loved it on a cold, snowy Indiana mug in a coffee cup warms your heart and soul! Would love to have you show us how to make it. Meanwhile, I'll be heading to Aldi tomorrow!!!

Have y’all tried the Vidal ice wine at ALDI? It’s a dessert wine for sure, would pair well with a peach cobbler or a pineapple upside-down cake.. We buy a few bottles every vintage but at $15/half bottle it’s a treat for us. Usually stick to my home brew.

I saw that they are supposed to have it last year, but it wasn't in stock where i checked last year, though i only checked right before driving up to my parents, so I'm sure it was in highest demand then. I'll have to stop by soon this year and get some!
