🪒If you're struggling with ingrown hairs, don't despair! There is hope. In this video, I'm sharing an unexpected tip from a dermatologist that can help you get rid of your ingrown hairs for good.

Shaving is often the culprit behind ingrown hairs, but you don't have to suffer. By following this dermatologist's shave tip, you can prevent ingrown hairs from happening and get rid of them for good! With this tip, you'll be able to shave everyday and avoid the hassle and pain of ingrown hairs!

🪒Shaving against the grain means that you are cutting the hair in the opposite direction to its natural growth pattern. While this can provide a closer shave, it can also cause the hair to become cut too short, which can increase the likelihood of it becoming trapped beneath the skin's surface and causing an ingrown hair.

Ingrown hairs occur when the hair follicle becomes clogged with dead skin cells or other debris, causing the hair to grow sideways or curl back into the skin. Shaving against the grain can create sharp, jagged edges on the hair, making it easier for it to pierce the skin and cause an ingrown hair.
Additionally, shaving too closely can cause irritation to the skin, leading to inflammation and redness that can also contribute to the development of ingrown hairs.

To reduce the risk of ingrown hairs, Apply a moisturizing shaving cream, shave in the direction of hair growth and avoid shaving too closely or choose alternative hair removal options.

For people like me with thick hair prone to ingrowns, going with the grain makes you feel like you didn’t get a great shave at all. Wax, Laser, and Electrolysis are better options for those of us with this problem.

I do get ingrown hairs when going against the grain, but i’ve found switching to a safety razor, as well as using an exfoliating toner nightly like the Ordinary’s Glycolic Acid has helped keep them at bay. I hate shaving with the grain because i always feel like i need to shave again only two days later, this way i get a perfect clean shave, and it lasts much longer :)

I shave my pits in all directions and never get ingrown hairs. But I also exfoliate before I begin.

My hair grows in so many different directions, it makes shaving correctly impossible 😢

The trouble with the multiblade razors are that they lift/pulls the hair up and then cuts it, when the hair is released chances are that it is retracts shorter than the skin. Use a single edged safety razor or a straight razor.

can you talk about the best way to cut curly hair? it’s honestly hard to tell what direction the hair grows in 😅

I use a body scrub first, like the Tree Hut or Dr. Teals brands then shave. Legs will be smooth and no ingrown hairs.

😅can you share easy ways to shave with the direction of the hair? I tried it before but I didn’t have as much control of the razor and cut/nicked myself a few times 😅 🙏🏾 thanks!

I wonder if the razor could have a type of gel underneath so the blades can flex with the knee curves?

For legs, theres no point in shaving at all if you cant get a clean shave. Thats the only place i still shave against the grain

I’ve heard this before but here’s the thing if I don’t shave against the grain it doesn’t cut the hair close enough so it looks like I shaved a week ago as opposed to just the other day. I can’t get laser hair removal or wax rn so that’s my only option🤷‍♀️

Sadly I have light skin with black body hair. If I shave with the grain, I look like I have stubble aka like I shave two days ago even tho it’s fresh. I’m going to try fully shaving with the grain and seeing how it looks.
I haven’t shaved in 3+ months due to it being winter so my leg hair is fully grown in. It’ll take me a while…

Hi Dr. Alexis, I'm a new subscriber for about 3 weeks and I 've been binge watching your videos. Thank you for your time and sharing your knowledge; you are the Goddess of all things skin care. I wanted to start my anti aging skin care routine weeks ago, based on the science and your product recommendations and just when I think I understand enough to make a list of products, I see another video of yours that makes me question the products I picked. How can I contact you to ask you a few questions ? Between all the steps in haircare, body care and skincare I'm looking for affordable products that really work and I want to buy the right products and not waste time and money.

Um I’m Greek. We are generally thick haired. So I can’t shave with the grain. It just feels like I didn’t shave at all. Waxing is usually my best best. It hurts more but I don’t get ingrown hairs.
