Have 3 W boxes on the go now, 2x 55's and a 57. Plus a spare late model 58. Love rebuilding these old boxes. Ofcourse made my own special 5th gear removal tool...cant believe people cut them off!

Terrific video. Question about that reverse pin on the shifter you were explaining about. Is it spring loaded or locked solid? I have a W 58 I’m putting in a British roadster and that pin doesn’t move in or out but I cant find out if it was supposed to.

Love the video. I've been wrenching on car since I was a teenager. I'm 58 now. My w58 had a very similar problem to the one in this video. A whirring sound until you put the clutch in the whirring sound went away. I'm guessing input shaft bearing. What do you think? Question. Trying to decide whether to send out my w58 or do it myself. Do you have an opinion? It's out of the car now . Any idea what a fair price would be for a shop to take one of these apart and go through it and put it back together for me?

My w59 trans wont shift. I took off the trans and took the casing off because it was leaking at the top. I put new rtv and put it back together. Now it wont shift. The handle only moves from center to the right. It wont move anywhere else. What could be the problem?

Where do you get parts for these transmissions? Should I replace my original Mk3 w58 with a steel sandwich plate one from a mk4? What does it take to make it work? @cmautohaus
