At the northern edge of the Pacific Ocean lies an island chain with a stormy and turbulent history. The Aleutian Islands are the world’s longest archipelago, stretching 1,000 miles between Alaska and Siberia. With a volatile climate and a place where the people fight for survival and territory, the Aleutians have earned the nickname, the cradle of the storms.

Fascinating documentary. Travelled past the Aleutian Islands chain on a merchant ship from Vancouver to China just over twenty years ago, and boy, I'll never forget the storm that the ship encountered - the worst I had ever experienced. I wonder now if the abandoned military bases will be reinstated with the current situation between Ukraine and Russia.

FINALLY!! My algorithm has narrowed down to almost nothing. Nothing of interest at all, until this documentary was suggested. My curiosity has been rekindled.

Very interesting historical-educational film. I saw such a complex story about the Alaskan Archipelago the first time and learned such a detailed storyabout it.Thanks to the creators of this documentary.

Stationed at Adak in the mid 80's. I was enthralled with the stark beauty of the islands, but I had zero knowledge of the history. I found lots of old Quonset huts were in various parts of the island but I wish I would have known more of the history at the time.

I have been fishing in the Bering sea for awhile now. I come from a fairly boring area in the lower 48 but the Aleutian Islands are my favorite place I’ve been to. I haven’t seen anything like it. I’d love to move here

Great historical film. I wondered if anyone considered, during the evacuation, asking some of the Aleutian people to act as advisors and guides for the military (for adaptation to the Alaskan climate)

Such places are esoteric & beautiful yet places that do not need or want people.
Look, but don’t touch is the message – or else!

The Malay archipelago is the world's longest. Not the Aleutian in Alaska.
