Hi guys, I can confirm the inline volume knob works as an attenuator. The search term I used was "3.5mm male to female adapter extension cable with volume control" (2 USD equiv in the Philippines). I set the volume on the knob all the way up and tape it in place to make sure it doesn't move by accident. My gain is set at -6 on the Action 3 and the audio sounds just right. That sits between the mic and the Boya BY-K4 USB-C to TRS adapter. Sounds pretty good on my setup with a cheap, no name lavalier.

The blur is caused by digital stabilization. This is the same case with GoPro and similar cameras if used at “slow” shutterspeed (at night or with ND filters). The image at those shutterspeeds is naturaly blurry when the camera moves. The stabilization stabilizes the image, but the blur remains as it is “baked in” the image. The same happens if you try to stabilize footage shot at slower shutterspeeds in post (eg. with warp stabilizer in Adobe tools). As a rule of thumb - turn off stabilization for these use cases. This cannot be fixed by some firmware update. This is basic videography knowledge.

The inline volume contol is from the Shure EAADPT-KIT. Life saver for me when I was using the Sony X3000.

Thanks for your time, personally i don't use ND filters with stabilisation anymore, it creates too much problems and blurryness

I think the blurring thing is stabilisation struggling to work with low shutter speeds. It happens with the hero 8 too remember?

Try turning the stabilisation to a lower effect and maybe even off?

Try it out and let us know how it goes!

What ND filter would you say you use the most? The 16? I am torn between the set of 5 for $40 or purchasing the single 16 and the single 8 at $19 each but they come with little cases that seem to be more protective. Thanks for all the info!

Quick capture next level is (with DJI Mic) - voice control - Start recording / stop recording - works way better than the GoPro 8 I have (and not use)

if you want to motovlog with the dji mic AND vertical, you need a seperate cage that leaves the left side open to connect the mic. alternatively you can use a cable.

I've experiencing the same blurry issue on my OA3. I returned my unit on the store and said will handover to their HQ to rectify. It's a great action camera however DJI should fix the issues most of their unit were facing.

What is the best setting for content? 4K 25 frames?

4:06 it is because of stabilization you need to turn it off when you are using such low shutter speeds like 1/60 and >

The problem with the BOYA adapter and a lot of the small adapters is they are essentially a tiny sound card. They take your analog mic signal run it through a tiny sound chip ADC (analaog to digital converter) because of course the other end USB C is digital. DJI really screwed the pooch here they should have just included a good 24bit ADC and 3.5mm jack on the camera because it is the one thing that really is a big disappointment on an otherwise great action camera. In the case of these cheap Chinese adapters I suspect it's a garbage 8 bit mono ADC. I was able to get it to stop clipping by sticking the whole lavaliere mic UNDER the cheek pad. This stops it from clipping. However, it's still not great audio. It's kinda telephone quality. I am experimenting with a real solution to this issue using another adapter that has a great ADC. However, I am not sure it will work yet. If it does it could be a game changer as it only costs 10 usd and has a 24 bit 192khz ADC which is about as good as it gets. Same form factor as the BOYA. I should find out tomorrow if it works if so I will make a video on my channel about it.

blur is caused by ND, action cam combined with low shutter and stabilizer cause that. it needs 1/320 approx +

Where do place the wired lav in the helmet, I usually placed it very close to my ear in the recess area, this way it will block much of the wind noise also I will use dead cat for the mic.

I haven't used the gen 2 or 3 models, but have been using the Action since it came out in 2019. Never have had an issues or missed any shots because of it. The blurriness at night or if you use ND filters is a bummer. I had bought some Polar Pro ND filters when I first got the action. I guess Rocksteady works but adjusting the shutter speed, so when you use a ND filter or film at night/dark locations you get the blurry movement. I just stopped using the filters and turn Rocksteady off if filming at night.

Going forward, I'm definitely NOT buying any more GoPro products. I'm beyond fed-up of getting home only to find that there's no audio/picture frozen/fully charged battery dropping immediately to 80% etc etc etc. I just cannot rely on my Hero 8, while my Insta360 X2 never lets me down.
Thanks for the video 👌🏻

I am doing the same rabbit hole research as you for a go helmet mic. Sorry the Dji mic still sounds like crap. I run in extreme cold and don’t really think the 5hr battery would last about 2hrs in the cold. I am so frustrated with egg OA3 - I have tried everything. Now the OA3 is just an overpriced pocket cam.

About blurry issue i had the same problem when the shutter speed lower than 200 but i think i had changed rocksteady+ to just rocksteady and the issue was solved.
better i say totally i forgot about it 😅
