$20,000 scratch off ticket voided due to this error

A woman in Virginia thought she won $20,000 on her lotto scratch off ticket but she wasn't rewarded the money. CNN's Anderson Cooper explains why not.

THIS EXACT SAME THING HAPPENED TO ME HERE IN OHIO, ALTHOUGH NOT THIS LARGE OF AN AMOUNT. I CALLED THE OHIO LOTTERY COMISSION AND THEY INSTRUCTED ME TO WRITE A LETTER AND SEND IT WITH THE TICKET TO THE LOTTERY COMISSION OFFICE. ABOUT 6 WEEKS LATER I RECEIVED THE WINNINGS.

Guy in Canada bought a bunch of tickets that had printing errors, they were all winners, something like $90k. The lottery corp tried the same thing saying they arn't paying. The dude got a lawyer and ended up settling out of court.

Under contract law a good lawyer would be able to retrieve the win from the lottery company and only charge a modest $20k for the work entailed.

Yes, it's clearly a mistake. One easily rectified by paying her & making sure it doesn't happen again. 20 grand from a State lottery is a pittance.

I see what can see the regular ticket is shorter than the one she bought. When it is scanned it will say no winner because the perforated line doesn't belong to the top portion. It isn't a is a cutting error from the machine.

How could you not realize the ticket was split in the wrong place? It's obvious you can clearly see the lines where the top of the next ticket starts. Anyone who plays the lottery should realize this instantly
