That is called getting Mitch Slapped. He is the highest singer in the group. Scott is the tall blonde, The one with long hair is Avi (who has left and been replaced with Matt), Kirstie is the girl and Kevin is the beatboxer. They are all amazing!

It’s A cappella. Meaning no musical instruments their voice is their instruments. Really awesome to hear in real life. Fills your body with chills.

They are an a cappella group like Home Free (the members of each group are actually good friends with each other). Pentatonix is a play on the word Pentatonic, a five-note musical scale. This song was also my introduction to Pentatonix (they are actually from my home state of Texas) and I was instantly hooked. I became a devoted Pentaholic and have been binging this group ever since. The group in order of solos: Scott Hoying (natural baritone with a six-octave range), Avi Kaplan (true basso profundo who also has an impressive range; Scott takes over the bass line when Avi sings lead), Kirstin "Kirstie" Maldonado (the only female member, can sing the full female vocal range from alto to soprano, has the looks of a model and the voice of an angel), Mitch Grassi (a true contra-tenor, the rarest male voice, can go WAY higher than he did here), Kevin "KO" Olusola (beatboxer extraordinaire, also plays cello in some songs and sings occasionally with a beautiful tenor). Scott, Mitch & Kirstie grew up together in Arlington, Texas, began performing together as children in local youth musical theater, then ended up in the same high school, where they performed in the school choir and first formed this group as The Trio. After high school, Scott managed to get The Trio an audition for the NBC a cappella singing competition show The Sing Off in 2011, but they needed to have five members. Scott's friend Ben Bram (who would go on to become the group's producer) introduced them to Avi, and they found Kevin thru one of his YouTube videos that had gone viral. Kevin literally joined the group the day before the audition! They passed the audition and went on to win the competition. The win was supposed to include a Sony recording contract, but Sony backed off from the deal, fearing a cappella music wouldn't sell. The group members had already moved to Los Angeles to start their careers, so instead of giving up, they began producing their own music on YouTube. They gathered a huge following, and about eight months later, Sony relented and re-signed them. The rest is basically history: three Grammy Awards, two #1 Billboard albums, multi-platinum record sales, and sold out world tours. Avi left the group in 2017 for personal reasons and was replaced by bass singer Matt Sallee a few months later. They are well known for recording in multiple genres, record both covers and original songs, and are perhaps most famous for their Christmas music (about half of their albums are Christmas albums). They take Christmas songs that everyone knows and completely re-arrange them so that they sound almost like brand new songs. Anything you react to from them will be mind-blowing...and if you start reacting to them regularly, you can expect you subscriber numbers to go even higher, because the Pentaholics WILL follow you!

Mitch can easily and consistently hit fricking whistle notes, it's brain bending how good all of them are by themselves, together... welcome😄

You’ve woken up the Pentaholics now, get ready for an endless supply of requests for more reactions to them lol. Pentatonic means 5 sounds..so 5 members make up the group. The only change was Avi Kaplan (your Josh Groban) who left on good terms and was replaced by Matt Salee. Scott (blonde guy) has amazing range too and picks up base when Avi or Matt are doing solos. Kevin (beat boxer) rarely sings but when he does, it’s worth it. Their live version of this song in the Christmas special is even better than the studio release. Check out Amazing Grace to be taken to church. Their Daft Punk video was filmed in a closet. Check out Bohemian Rhapsody to be blown away. Remember, no instruments. All the sound comes from them (stomping and clapping included). I love Lex’s energy in all your reactions, it gets me hyped to go listen to these songs again on my own!

Pentatonix is named after the pentatonic scale. 5 notes- 5 members. Mitch does have the highest range in the group and can go higher. They do have a couple "techno" songs; Daft Punk Medley and Love Again ( an original). If they use an instrument ( Kevin- beatboxer plays cello while beatboxing) you will see the instrument in the video. They have also won 3 Grammys.

"I feel like I just got baptized." Yep. Pentatonix and Home Free are both great, so much acapella goodness! There is no rivalry between them, just mutual respect. It's natural that people have their favorite but you can't go wrong with either of them.

The three core singers Scott (first solo), Kirsten (the girl) and Mitch (the high voice) did musical theater together from the age of ten and all were in the same high school chorus. Avi (beard, left in 2017) was recruited by Scott while he was at UCLA for inclusion into the group for the third season of the Sing Off (they won) and Kevin was also recruited based on a viral video of his cello-boxing work on YouTube. They first got together the day before they auditioned but are all close friends, one reason the group works, there's never internal conflict with PTX one reason it works so well; everyone is unselfish and they respect each other.

If you didn't know, this style of singing is called "A cappella" (ä-kə-ˈpe-lə) It's Italian. Basically, it used to refer to "in church/choir/chapel style". Now it basically just means singing without instrumental accompaniment. I saw you reaching for words trying to describe this and thought I would throw this in there. Home Free and Pentatonix are A Cappella groups.

A competition show called “The Sing Off” introduced these voices to the world. When they won - we all won!

Jeff Buckley does this hauntingly amazing version of this song. There are so many words to describe his version but none of them are good enough. You can feel him deep down like he is touching your soul!

I get a kick outta the fact that you said they sound like they should be techno. They do a techno type of performance as well. They actually won a Grammy for it. Its a medley for Daft punk songs. Its really good, should check that out as well. The 3 main people were friends throughout highschool. The guy with the long hair and the beat boxer they picked up for a competition that they won. Its the same competition that Home free won a year later. Avi the bass singer did do a song with home free, they redid ring of fire by Johnny Cash. Definitely a rabbit hole to explore with this group.

The Canadian songwriter is Leonard Cohen couldn’t stop writing this song, finishing at 80+ verses. ✌️🎸
