This is my go to foundation. I’m 53 and have dry skin. I only use concealer under my eyes. Foundation covers everything else. I apply it with the real techniques blend and blur brush. Using a foundation brush that’s really dense and buffing it into your skin works a lot better than treating it like it’s a setting powder. Also, I find that a little goes a long way.

This foundation bumped Laura Geller's powder foundation for me & I used LG for years. I went to repurchase the Bareminerals & in reading the reviews found out they reformulated since I originally purchased & that people were not happy. I heard good things about One Size & Makeup Forever so I think I'll be trying them next. Maybe Fenty too.

As an oily human, I am so grateful you did a powder review. Your videos are my nighttime happytime tea, and I usually have to be vicarious with the product. Just sorry it didn't work for you, dear person. Thank you for what you do.

Certain tools and applicators work differently with powder foundations than they do with cream or liquid. While a sponge might provide a lighter coverage with liquid or cream foundation… because it dilutes it with water (= damp sponge) and it tends to absorb some of it… powder foundation, on the other hand, gets a heavier application with the sponge, since it does not absorb much if any of it. Brushes, on the other hand, can lay powder a bit lighter… although it depends on the density of the brush. A thick and firm kabuki brush tends to offer more coverage, while a fluffy powder brush gives more of a light coverage.
I have normal to oily skin and use powder foundation over tinted sunscreen or a tinted moisturizer… to set and mattify them. On its own, it’s typically either too light in coverage or too “powder-cakey”.

This was my go to for like 10 years but as soon as my pores got more prominent, it just didn't work any longer. It does not cover or even blur my pores. It just accentuates them. I agree that it is better as a setting powder. I can't wear powders either as my primary foundation. I'm still digging the Guerlain foundation at the moment and I found another really good one from the Walmart. It's the revolution serum foundation. For under 5 bucks, I'm impressed!!👍

Shelly, I would request you to try this powder once more exactly the same way like you applied in this video (while you are at home) but follow it up with a setting spray (CT airbrush/UD All nighter/Nyx matte spray) to determine if the coverage lasts. I’ve used this powder in the same process before and the coverage lasted even in a humid tropical country.
Have a nice day and take care you too.❤❤❤

I haven't been impressed by Shiseido's additions to the bareMinerals line. I'm curious what you'd think of the original foundation (swirl-tap-buff, start light and build up, use a small brush to add spot coverage). The combination of minerals -- only minerals, nothing else -- gives a glow to skin that's hard to describe, other than to say the only times anyone has ever stopped me in public to compliment my skin are when I'm wearing the original bareMinerals foundation.

If the original isn't your bag for makeup, it's great as a pore-shrinking night treatment. Not sure this minerals+botanicals pressed stuff is anything but cosmetic.

Though I haven't tried BM's pressed powder foundation, I have some tips that might help it work better for you. I saw a video by a couple of MAC makeup artists who used setting spray before powder foundation and after. Of course, they were talking about MAC's Studio Fix Powder Foundation, but it works with any powder foundation. It settles the dryness down and makes the complexion look more natural. Actually, that method works with other types of foundations as well. In addition, the best application of a powder foundation is with a dense buffing brush. Those little included sponges/pads are pretty useless except for emergency touch-ups. They slap on too much powder, which gives that dry, cracky, fake appearance. The looser, puffier brushes are best for finishing. I hope these tips are helpful. As I age, I haven't been reaching for the compact powder foundations much anymore. They used to be a staple for my formerly oily skin. Changing the subject, I just found out Boots No. 7 has a new stick foundation on which I hope you'll pick up for a test session. The shades look dark, however, but you can't always go by those little color squares or even swatch photos. It's boasts skincare like squalene. I'm so curious.

I love using this to set my concealer over melasma and acne scars. Gives it just the extra coverage that I need. Otherwise, I don’t use it as foundation.

Hi Shelley I have always found powder foundation looks much better over a primer and/or a tinted moisturiser. For me powder foundation is a really good top up during the day when my rosacea redness peeks through (I use the laura gellor balance n brighten btw for my super dry skin). It also works as a foundation better in the height of Summer when my normally super dry skin isn't quite as dry - plus the powder feels lightweight when it's sweaty weather. The shade match was really good on you and it looked fine on camera. Best wishes.

I have about 15years on you and a few years ago my skin changed from acne prone normal to dry. Ive tried so many foundations....Oh the agony of wasted money and the the utter frustration of chasing a foundation that worked for me.😢 ODDLY enough, I'm back where i started: BareMinerals 😮😮😮 I've found the key is proper skincare that is super hydrating and using the BareMinerals Beautiful Finish Foundation Brush. And, as with just about anything...Less is best. There is something about this brush!!! and the technique.

When buffing the powder foundation into the skin it almost seems to transform into a cream; but you must buff it in using circular motions. I use very little actual product and get a skin-like finish.

Although this particular brush was designed for use with the loose powder foundation, I use it with the BarePro compact as well, using the same brush and technique, and get the same type results.

With the BarePro compact...when I used the sponge (wet or dry) I ended up looking ridiculous before I even leave the house., .. it lays down too much product and looks & feels gross.

Love the glasses! I am a powder foundation fan. Dry mature skin and liquids unless they are very very thin just cake and never seem to soak/melt in anymore Yeah those foam things are awful.. throw them away! I've use Laura Geller, Ulta and PUR powders. The Ulta one works fine and was a good inexpensive way to try a powder ~7.00 on sale. The PUR one is nice too and the one I use most often. The Laura Geller, while the formula is probably my favorite, the shade is not. I am same shades as you ( between fair and light neutral) so I got fair... which is just too dark. I use it as an eye shadow and a light bronzer instead. I like to use a glowy primer with my powders
