Welcome to Schony747 trains on Wednesday. If you enjoy the video, hit the like button and smash the bell for weekly updates on Schony747.

Today Schony747 features Diesel Locomotive C501 named George Brown leading an all Victorian Railways Blue and Gold Passenger Consist on the main standard gauge line west to Ararat. 10 of the C Class locomotives were ordered by VR in 1977. The C Class spent most it's life with VR and V/Line hauling freight. Hauling passenger trains over short distances in the broad gauge era was pretty rare but did happen. C501 was assisted on the day by T357 and P22. All 3 locomotives are operated by The Seymour Railway Heritage Centre and run on the standard gauge. C501 was supposed to lead in both directions but due to issues with the Ararat Yard, the train was turned at The Pyrenees Loop instead.

Here is the all Victorian Classic Blue and Gold Victorian Railway lashup. Have a great week - Brenden S.

Great shots of the locos, always have a soft spot for the VR livery. Worked in Ararat in the 80s, 2 signal boxes and a huge yard as well as the turntable at the loco shed. That's progress!!

Wonderful to see passenger trains together with locos in traditional VR colours / logo. As a kid in the fifties I'd cycle up to Craigiburn to watch The Spirit of Progress in that blue and gold logo. Originally pulled by 'streamlined' dedicated S Class steam (correct me if wrong). By the fifties, two A2 engines were the usual fare. Also rode as an 'accompanied minor' as a passenger to and fro changing at Albury from Vic Wide Gauge to go onward on NSW's Standard guage.

Lovely idling sound from that 16-645. I could listen to an idling EMD (or one on full power) all day

Goodday Brendan,

It was only a matter of time before Seymour converted the passenger wagons to SG.

The BG network is shrinking, hopefully Big George travels upto Mildura one of these day.

Great to see Ararat layout, the Velocity has to cross 2 diamonds as it approaches Ararat by the looks of it.

Just curious why didn't they run Big George long nose forward on the return now that would of been awesome.

Great video seeing Big George thumping around the country side showing off.

Such a beautiful legendary loco my all time favorite.

Cheers

Louis 👍

Cracking video Brenden, just love the old VR blue and gold. Plenty of others out filming/photographing events too. SCT009 & SCT014 look very worn and tired.

Love your work. As expat Victorian I wish I could come back and just go for a day trip. Is there any chance you can get a cab ride in any of the locos T or C to film a trip from Cab view ? Even just to show us the cab ?

Another great video, well done. Great to see C501 out and about. Was there really a need for the P & T with that light load?
