Game 3 showed that Hans thrives in complicated games. I don't remember who said it, but a great GM said that Hans thrives in complicated attacking games, and so he values initiative a lot more than material on the board, but when you grind the game down into defensive slugfests, Hans wavers.

Though Anish is a great chess player, he played into Hans's strengths with this game. The g6 move allowed Hans the initiative he needed to run Anish off the board. I'm thinking that if Anish just sacrificed a pawn and defended a slightly worse endgame, he'd have ended with a draw.

That "I wasn't born yesterday" 9:29 line killed me 😂😂😂😂😂

The thing is agadmator said Hans playing like an engine probably was just a compliment but it can be taken in others ways too. lol

What is this sorcery by Hans? Dude is playing like Alpha zero these days 🔥 Maybe Magnus and Hikaru should reconsider their stance and admire this talented chess player.

3:00 the reason why Hans captures with the bishop here is that when he recaptures with the knight it hits Anish’s light square bishop. The square bishop can’t move because f7 is weak for queen-rook battery, so Hans is getting Anish’s light square bishop. Basically Hans has exchanged his dark square bishop for Anish’s light square bishop which is positionally very smart, because Hans is attacking and opposite color bishops benefit the attacking player.

Excellent play from both players with such complicated lines. Also made me realise... I only enjoy chess, I can't really play it lol.

The second game by Hans until the moment he got a piece is Alpha Zero / Paul Morphy the simplicity of the game, he just finds simple ideas that show you "how bad humans are at chess".

“You always have to put a rook behind the passed* pawn. That’s how chess works.”

I didn’t know that. But now I do due to that succinct and definitive statement.

Hans can be a real pain in the ass to play against.

Hans has beaten Nepo and now Anish Giri in the same tournament and his play is making a statement that he is not a cheater. He is a very good chess player.

I went there to watch yesterday. Was interesting...although in the actual playing hall, it was hard to see the position as there was no monitor. There was big screen in the next room though. Got to see some wild Foreests as well as they left the building with Hans, and played some chess on the side boards. Thanks for the event, guys!

Outstanding match. All past allegations aside, Hans is a great player who apparently puts in the work.
