In this Optistruct tutorial, we will perform submodeling in Hypermesh. This is also known as global-local analysis.

Model setup is performed in Hypermesh and the Optistruct solver is used to extract the results. The post-processing of FEA results is done using Hyperview.

Hi Swap thanks for sharing this, it is a good modeling technique to show a comparison between global vs local stress analysis. In lot of cases local models are preferred to perform structural assessment on specific parts of interest. Global models also come in handy showing further load distribution to interfacing components, which is a reason why stress reduction is shown as covered in your presentation. So it is up to analysts decision how to idealize the environment based on assessment objectives.

Well done Swapnil! An excellent presentation of a long anticipated procedure. As in every "global to local" (or submodeling, or "zoom analysis"), it is a good practice to plot the reaction forces both on the global model and the local one in order to confirm that the values match each other. Fantastic video. A few questions:
1. If we want to further refine the mesh, can we add another submodel and only run it or do we have to run all subcases (including the large global model) again?
2. How is this method different from including Grid Point Forces in the output of the global model, and then importing those results to a FBD in the submodel?
3. If we refine the submodel mesh a lot, how do we avoid the stress concentrations at the nodes of the local mesh that are equivalenced with the global mesh?

Hello, aeroswap. Suppose we have different young’s modulus for every element in the model. How will you represent that in Hypermesh and do the analysis? Can you make a video on it with results such as Von Mises stress shown? I would be so glad if you could help me with this. Thank you

I like your videos! Very useful!
Courd U please make one about geometry processing for complicated structure with T-joints and various thicknesses. Where it's gonna require some midsurface creation for thin parts and appropriate 2D mesh and some 3D mesh at latch locations (where thickness is too big and it should be considered as solid). That would be some doors or lids with complex machined edges.

Hi, very good video!
But I have one question. Is that any option to run local submodel analysis only? Sometimes bigger model analysis takes too long and will be perfect to run it as a submodel only. Did you hear about it?

Rigid element 2206 is entirely outside
the domain of submodel for subcase 2.

Hi bro, I am new to your channel, really liked your content. Just started with Hypermesh, an issue came up write away, I was importing one of your tutorial IGES file for my practice but for some reason it shows nothing on the screen, I tried different different IGES files but after clicking Import it shows nothing on the screen just the background color. Can you please help me figure this out?

Did you know why the Hypermesh is so heavy application
I have Hypermesh 2023 suite in my PC (Ryzen 5600X, 16Gb RAM, RTX 3060 12Gb). My computer lagging so much even if only I import geometry
The geometry is a simple small 1Part (motorcycle shock absorber head)
Actually there is nothing suspicious in the Windows Task manager (CPU 10~20%, RAM 50%)
I don't know why this can possibly happen
Is there anything that I can do to make the application lighter?
