Sirui Aurora 85mm F1.4: The Almost Perfect Budget Portrait Lens?

The Sirui Aurora 85mm F1.4 is the newest budget full-frame portrait lens and I think that it is ALMOST perfect! In today's video I show the result from testing out Sirui's newest autofocus lens but this time it covers full-frame sensors. The Sirui 85mm F1.4 might just be the best budget portrait lens on the market! But what do you guys think?

I know Sirui just announced their new Anamorphic Autofocus lenses, but this 85mm F1.4 Full-frame portrait lens is still pretty dang cool! 😆 What do you think?

Steven Leong also did a really honest review of this lens. I’ll save up for the sigma

As owner of this Sirui 85 1.4 and previous owner of Sony 85 1.8 and Samyang 85 1.4, specifically for Bokeh, the sirui in my opinion is day and night better, and in terms of focus, the Sirui is much faster and more reliable than the Samyang, not to mention the metal vs cheap plastic feel of the Samyang.

Great review, I had NO idea they have released a new lens. Always love third party lenses for their characteristics. Thanks man

Sirui lenses are always well-built, but I’ve been eyeing the TTArtisan 75mm f/2 for its compact size. I’m wondering how the two compare for someone who shoots on the go.

I will get it bcos of the price. I sold my Sigma 85mm f1.4, bcos I think the price is way too expensive for me to keep in my lens line-ups. Add on to that, after purchased Sigma 85mm. I find myself not using it very often as compared to my 16-35mm PZ G, 24mm GM, 70-200 GM. At times I wanted to have that 85mm focal length look, and I do miss it and thinking of getting one back in my line-ups again. So I reckon this Sirui Aurora will do just fine to stay in my backpack, lighter is one thing what I am looking for, second is price lower and I won't feel butt hurt if I don't use it often. My shooting style is just still portrait image (singularity), or B-rolls. Looking into this lens now, thanks for the video!

I own the Yongnuo 85mm f1.8 but thinking of getting this lens at 1.4. Would I be better off upgrading to this or the Sony f1.8. Mainly for portraits.

I'm in the beginning stages of finding what I need to film band content. A lot of settings would be in darker settings with multicolor stage lighting. Do you think this lens would be ideal for what I need?

The Sirui looks impressive, but for me, the TTArtisan 75mm f/2 has been more practical. It’s smaller and easier to carry around, especially when traveling. Sharpness-wise, I’ve been really happy with it on my Sony.

Most AF struggles at longer focal lengths on any lens using apertures from f1.4-1.2. Nature of the beast. You probably know.

Please make comparison with meike 85mm f1.4 and sony 85mm 1.8 for almost same price range

Odd you mention the focus issue. I currently run a Sigma Art 85mm F1.4 but A mount on a E mount adapter and that is the only issue I have encountered. For me if I switch to MF on the lens switch then back to AF then it will not focus, I have to turn the camera off and back on or remove the lens and reinstall it.

Great video!
I had a question regarding which lenses you’d recommend for the Sony ZVE-10? I’m at the very beginning of my film making journey and that’s the cam I’m going with after some heavy research. Would this aurora lens work with that camera? And do you think that camera is a good beginner choice in your experience? I’m also on a budget so I was looking at the sigma lenses. Thanks.

Which filters did you use for that guitar shots ?

Maybe it needs a firmware update. Also I tried the 33mm 1.2 sniper series. It wasn't as nice as sigma 30mm. Kind of makes me a iffy about his lens. Think I will wait see how it evolves.

If you shoot handheld with the FX3, will the stabilization be worse compared to using Sony lenses?

The main problem of the lens is the blooming, and then you decide to add a blooming filter for half of the test images you show. Was it to mask how bad the blooming was?
