Pink Floyd: The Wall (Music From The Film) - 09) Mother

Re-recorded completely with the exception of David Gilmour's guitar solo (Gilmour refused to take part in The Wall film), The lyrics were rewritten by Roger and changed into a more narrative-oriented style to work as film music (Example: "Is it just a waste of time?" became "Am I really dying?")

When the film adaptation of The Wall was made, James Guthrie (Sound/Music director) had to remix many of the songs from the album and some had to even be rerecorded (In The Flesh, Mother, etc) Fans treat this as a brand new version of the album and most have recorded a "Soundtrack" using the DVD.

This version really brings out the emotion in Roger Waters’ voice. He doesn’t have the prettiest tone, but his voice is extremely expressive and his voice always fits whatever emotion the song requires perfectly.

Very nice. I have been looking for the movie soundtrack for 25 years and it has proved to be an illusive piece of my collection to find. While I love the studio version this has a tone and tempo that is unique and masterfully scored and is in it's own way to me personally just as awesome as the studio.

For me this is the turning point in the film from when it becomes a rebellious cult film to a proper piece of art and a powerful story. Before it's good, but this brings it to a whole new level

This is by far the greatest version of “Mother” ever! I love the scream before “Mama will she tear your little boy apart”. How could they never have released a soundtrack album to this movie????

This version is heartbreaking. Light years past the album original.

I love we live in a world with this version, the 1980 live version, and the album version

I've seen this movie 100 times and praise Bob Geldof for his performance in the film. I do see why folks are divided on his performance. But I agree with two music critics whose names I can't remember one said had they tried to get someone like Mick Jagger or David Bowie those guys would've been too iconic to step outside their box for another band. Geldof wasn't quite so iconic at that time. Another said the fact that he wasn't a Floyd fan added the detached nature of the character and it wouldn't have been as convince if he was a close friend of Floyd and Waters.

The Triangle chimes really give off a more emotional feel to the song.

This version gives me goosebumps every time I listen to it, I don't even know the reason. It could be because it just sounds more calming. It takes it slow, and makes you enjoy every millisecond of it. Pink Floyd will always be the best to compose every human emotion into a song.

Im so glad these tracks are here. To hear them without the video, my imagination fills in the blank spots so wonderfully. Awesome! Thank you!

This song really proves you that you don't have to have a beautiful singing voice to have a beautiful song. Just some anxiety is enough 😉

That "is there anybody in there" always creeps the fuck out of me, especially with the context of comfortably numb
