It is SUCH a joy when someone finishes a composition left incomplete, by a top-notch composer.... and does it in such a way that few would suspect it was in fact the work or 2 people, not one!! Like when Sussmayer finished one of Mozart's signature works, the fantastic Requiem that sets the bar for all others that followed. In this case Glazounov captured the spirit of Borodin VERY nicely, and finished Prince Igor so that it became a True Masterpiece and an integral part of the standard orchestral and choral repitoire! Bravo to both of them!!!

On top of being a music genius, Alexander Borodin was also a science genius, chemistry/organic chemistry, Amazing brain.

This overture was left without orchestration It was orchestrated mainly by Glazounov. The result is awesome. It wouls have been a great pity to leave Prince Igor unknown.

Beautiful music! One of my favorite pieces of music -- classical or otherwise. Thank you for sharing this with everyone in You Tube land.

To Andreas Hasenfratz: in answer to your question, the piece was really put together by Glazunov, and many would claim that it was actually composed by him.

This was true of much of the opera.  Borodin left it in an incomplete state, and Glazunov took it upon himself to bring it to a performable state and to thus permit publication.

Thus much of the credit for this work should go to Glazunov.

It's not notated but I believe this is the London Symphony recording with Solti on the podium.

7:01 sounds like it would go perfectly with the "Nowhere in Particular" scene from the Wind in the Willows cartoon.

Most underrated piece. Sadly, Borodin couldn't even hear this piece himself.

Superb! but I'm not quite sure that the orchestration is by Rimsky-Korsakov. Any hint? thanks.

Kismet brought me here. They used the loveliest Borodin melodies.

Everybody looked so stuffy back then.  I guess photographers hadn't thought of having them say "Cheese" yet.
