Carla Nowak (LEONIE BENESCH) is a dedicated, idealistic young teacher in her first job at a German middle school. Her relaxed rapport with her seventh-grade students is put under stress when a series of thefts occur at the school, and a staff investigation leads to accusations and mistrust among outraged parents, opinionated colleagues, and angry students. Caught in the middle of these complex dynamics, Carla tries to mediate—but the more she tries to do everything right, the more desperate her position becomes.

Other strong roles are played by Eva Löbau, Michael Klammer, and, making his film debut in the lead child role, Leo Stettnisch. Cinematographer Judith Kaufmann (CORSAGE) was responsible for the visual design’s ominous mood.

One of the best movies of the year
If you are an idealist, if you are a teacher, and most importantly if you are a person who thinks that you make the best decisions in times of crisis, this movie is for you.

So many teachers are leaving or refusing to work in this profession. This is yet another wake up call.

I think people are missing the social commentary here. This isn’t even particularly about the education system- it’s about the mess we live in today- themes of cancel culture, immigration, surveillance, (the me too movement?), media, internet, policing, protests, and I’m sure much more are all packed in here. Soundtrack is so thumping good I had a get an EKG post screening. Brilliant, gritty, and stunning performance by Leonie Benesch. Well cast in every role, especially the fully dimensional kids. Screening now on Alaska Airlines. That alone is worth the flight to Seattle,

For some reason, the movie reminds me of L’Étranger (The Stranger) written by Albert Camus. Just as Meursault was a stranger in his society, Ms. Nowak, the teacher is a stranger at the school. It’s realistically ‘absurd’ how she gets criminalized despite all her good intentions. The movie does a great job of showing it.

Sony Pictures Classics should make a documentary about autism and middle school

The Germans clearly like making social and political films based in schools.
There's an earlier film called "Die Welle" (The Wave - 2008) which uses a classroom experiment to show fascism grew in Germany.
A more recent German film set in school is called: "The Locked In Society".

Do they not want us to see this movie? I’ve been searching since the Oscar nominations and it is not in theaters and not streaming. Whoever strategized that should get a stern talking to.

I've seen the movie in Amsterdam when it was released a couple of weeks ago. Because it was hyped in the media I had high expectations but left the theater with mixed feelings. Not that it was bad but i I was not sure what the message was or did it have any at all? Unfortunately It felt chaotic and unsatisfying, altho at times entertaining and even funny, I am german so it was easy to follow and felt familiar to me. I also want to point out that the german school system is incomparable to the american educational system.

The movie is so much better than this trailer. The trailer makes it seem like they had an improper romance and that is not it at all.

The end was very disappointing...throught the entirety of the movie, I was continuously anticipating an explanation of the "video."
Although Ms.Kuhn's denial appeared genuine, someone had to have committed the theft. That was the cause of the whole matter. I hate when movies end that way!.

這劇情能讓我連想到自己的遭遇；感想是, 根據往者已矣的原理（？）, 感覺司法調查似乎無法完善化（所以才會有「自由心證」的產生, 而它的本質應該就是一種猜測而已）！是故, 若人世間壞事無法根除（原因？極可能與「物競天擇」的天生野心之直接間接結果有關！？）, 那麼生存就需靠運氣, 運氣好就碰到好事, 運氣壞就碰到壞事！由衷希望有便衣警察在身邊監護, 以保安全, 但有這種人力嗎？真是龍年出生的烏龍命, 疑似遭人設計！？
