NARROWBOAT Living - USE it or LOSE it! Aylesbury Arm GU! Ep66

This week’s vlog sees us back on the canal. We return from our trip away to Memphis and return to the Aylesbury Canal Society. We briefly go back to the Aylesbury Basin, then back to the ACS, and then work our way back up the Aylesbury Arm and back to the Grand Union Canal. We have some torrential rain one day and sunshine the next, we also seem to have our own black cloud that cruises with us lol. We take our tiny NARROWBOAT floating home back through the very narrow, overgrown stretch of canal, before negotiating 13 locks! Very Déjà Vu! Due to the recent heavy rain, the canal water level is very high. We make it to the main GU canal just before sunset. This canal is quite forgotten and overgrown, yet it is very beautiful and well worth visiting and we hope this video inspires others to give it a go. With the current situation with CRT funding being reduced, if we don’t use these smaller canals, we’ll lose them!

The last scenes of the end of the Aylesbury, where the evening light was turning everything to gold, were truly magical. It was a lovely canal, even with the weeds and wildly encroaching greenery. I hope when people see these vids, they will plan a trip up (down?) the Aylesbury, too. As you said, if folks don't use the smaller canals, they will disappear. And, by the way, Martin got me with that danged hooter again, just like he got you! Have a great week!

Hi guys what beautiful autumn leaves with the sun shining through. It must be wonderful pulling up at the end of the day tying off and your house is right there. Yes the use it or lose it mentality is a worry a bit like the old railway lines that people are running steam trains on. Lets hope people never get sick of boating on the canals.
