Slightly misleading. Pure ethylene glycol does have a freezing point of -5F, but more standard 50/50 mixes of antifreeze and coolant can go down to -35F and a 70/30 mixture can go down to -84F.

Technician here, I live in MN and I use a 70/30 of antifreeze concentrate and water. Roughly -50°F. wonder what would happen if you swap out the water with something else?
Curious if mixing concentrate might be able to make it more resistant. Pure concentrate doesn't work either.

I have a cabin that's on a mountain facing a valley. We get the winds that come down across Canada and over the Great Lakes. I have walked in and found frozen bottles of -45° antifreeze inside. It amazes me that anything survives outside in those conditions.
