8 Things To Do at Cabrillo National Monument

Cabrillo National Monument is one of only a few National Park Service properties in Southern California, and while it isn't the biggest park in the National Park system, there is still quite a bit to do there. In this video we give eight things to do at Cabrillo National Monument and discuss the park's history.

Our eight things include the visitor center, the Cabrillo statue, the World War II bunkers, the lighthouse, whale watching, the Bayside Trail, the tide pools, and taking in a sunset.

Cabrillo National Monument was created in 1913 and is located in Point Loma, CA, next to San Diego. The monument commemorates the landing by Juan Cabrillo in 1542, the first European to step foot in what is now the west coast of the United States. The park also preserves the Pt. Loma Lighthouse, which was built in 1855.

Every time one of your old videos pops up that I haven't seen before I always click it! The best thing about discovering you late is that I got all these back videos to watch! And I appreciate everyone of them as I can't travel anymore! Happy New Year 2024!!

Went to school in Mission Hills and then Linda Vista and we always took a field trip to Cabrillo Nat Mon. LOVED IT. Then we would always take visiting friends there and the Zoo and wild animal park. We always stopped at Rosecrans Cemetary as we had a family vet friend buried there. This was back in the 70’s and 80’s….I seriously need to get back to Cali, San Diego and see all of this again in person.

It's taking me some time to go through all your videos, and when I got to this I was so excited. Pt. Loma Lighthouse and Cabrillo Monument is my favorite place to visit every time I go to SD. Such beautiful views and love the great info you have. I have yet to be there at night to see the sunset and lights, but, that will be my next adventure to SD. Thanks again!!!! 👍

When i have relatives or friends come visit and they don't know about Cabrillo monument i bring them here and they are amazed at the view.
They used to have a big notebook inside the bookstore that people could sign and leave their impressions of cabrillo and there where tons of positive reviews from people from all over the world. Sadly they discontinued the book signing a few years back, I asked why and they did not give me a reason why.

Nice video Steve. Back in 1973, Pasadena College moved all of the campus to Point Loma and bought the entire facility from USIU. You might want to do a historical video about that area. I think it was built by a group called the Theosophical Society. One of the main buildings is built in the shape of a turtle and I think it was built by funds donated by the family that owned sports equipment company. I studied there from 1973-75 and received my Bachelor of Arts degree. My brother, a former MLB pitcher went there and pitched for the Point Loma Nazarene College as it was known back then and still holds some baseball records there that will probably never be beat. His name is Marty Decker. You can check all of that out on the internet. Decker
