I wasn't *willing* to die for my country even when I was a soldier. However, I accepted that I had volunteered for a job, made a decision that could cost me my life. I suspect (but could easily be wrong) that most soldiers (and veterans) give the "side-eye" to people who wax poetic about "dying for my country" but are still within the age range to serve in the military, are basically healthy enough to do it, yet have not. Then there are the words of General Patton, who said that you win a war by "making the *other* poor dumb son of a bitch die for HIS country."

I was several years out of the army when I tracked down and read "War Is A Racket, " by General Smedley Butler, a former Commandant of the US Marine Corps and a 3-time recipient of the Congressional Medal of Honor (a since-discontinued practice, multiple awards of the CMH). General Butler basically described his service in Central America and the Philippines as thug-work for international corporations, and it's probably the reason why, despite his unquestionable valor on the battlefield, his name is very nearly lost to history outside of certain anti-corporate/anti-war circles. Not much has really changed since General Butler's times.

John Kerry, the future Secretary of State, once asked a Congressional committee how does one ask a man to be the last man to die for a mistake, in reference to the Vietnam War. These days, it's more like how does one convince a man (or, increasingly, a woman) to be the first to die for the company's stock price?

If you die, is not for your country, is for somebody else personal political disagreement! Greetings,

If someone threatens a sovereign nation, it's not nationalism when the nation defends itself and attacks back. It's just nature, defending ones self and home

Graham was one of my most enjoyed authors, but i have to disagree, with him here. It is a bit
contradictive to say doesnt agree with tribalism or patriotism, when in the jungles of the Amazon drinking the hullicigenic auywhuhasacha, he would agree with the indigenous communities defending their people, way of life and homeland.

Patriotism gives you a false sense of pride in others achievements

Please please please put up the whole podcast as a video! If you don't, I will be okay. I promise. We all will be somehow. Somehow we already are OK. Love and hugs and kisses and wonder blessings your way! Thank you for what you are doing and being. xx

Patriotism is to me standing up for your beliefs, as well your fellow country men's beliefs, even if they are different.

Just like Willy McBride’s reply. I know that my brother soldiers didn’t die for their country, at least in my experience in the former Yugoslavia. It was for their comrades, and the people suffering. No different than running out too face a Sabre tooth lion. Ultimately to protect those who cannot protect themselves is why I was willing to die for my country, not politics, people.

Love love love that you put Graham Hancock on!! I had an awakening 5 years ago or so and still happening! I decided in my awakening to go back to school (USF) at 49 and I’m getting close to having a BA degree in anthropology from USF. no clue what I am gonna do with it yet but we shall see. lol I love archaeology, but I am open minded and willing to learn all points of views! I have read Hancock’s books and love him. I believe if we can under stand our ancient past, we will be able to move forward in our awakenings! Thanks Russel. I think you are wise and fun to listen too!
