Jim, I have an old original 12v Bosch from the time back when cordless drills were just coming out. It has served me well over the years. The use is homeowner only, so it’s only on its second battery (expensive even at batteries plus). When you first mentioned how much you liked Ridgid on one of the Snapper videos, I picked up the brushless drill/driver and drill combo kit the next time I was in HD. Fortunately i haven’t had to test the warranty yet, but the power and torque of the drill driver when putting self tapping screws into heavy sheet metal amazes me. Battery life per charge is exceptional. I’m waiting for them to bring a couple of promised tools to market...a yard blower and string trimmer. I’m tired of carb cleaning and driving 20 miles for ethanol free gas. Needless to say, my old Bosch 12v is gathering dust.

In Australia we have AEG. Same company. Our tools have 6 years warranty with 3 years on batteries.
I'll never use anything else. I love them.

Have lots of Ridgid because of the LSA. So far have only had to use it one time on a 18 volt fan. Called them and sent a short video of what it was doing. Had a new fan shipped to me the next week with no other questions. Called them back with the new serial number and it's now covered under the LSA..

Glad they sent Lithum Ion. Nicads have the memory recharging issues and don't hold up. I put new Nicad batteries inside my old tools that have Nicad. The battery cases can usually be opened. Take pictures of how the batteries are wired up. It will say on the battery cells what the voltage and amps are. Get new battery cells off eBay. The original sales receipts are printed at the store on thermal paper. The print on it fades out over time if it is exposed to light or heat. I scan mine and print and copy on my printer. That eliminates that problem.

I own mostly Ridgid and will say that your experience with the warranty will depend a lot on where you have the service done. Had a sander fixed at Home Depot (no charge) and it took almost two months. Another repair on a drill went to a local repair guy (approved by Ridgid) and I had it back in 2wks. Batteries have been as easy as you say... call them, do about 5min of diagnosis over the phone, and give them your shipping address...

Hi, since you asked:

Metabo HPT/Hikoki(formally known as Hitachi) also offers a lifetime warranty on their cordless tools and cordless nailers, and a 2 or 3 year warranty on batteries. On their miter saws, it's a 5 year professional warranty.

Ridgid is similar. The warranty for both brands is technically a tool lifetime warranty. It's for the manufacturing lifespan of the tool, and for however many years afterward that they still have parts, which Hitachi will tell you is usually 5-7 years.
Ridgid also has a 5 year warranty on miter saws, table saws, etc, instead of the LSA. I believe Ridgid is actually several different companies that share the name, so different tools might have different warranties.

I hate to be cynical, but upgrading customers to li-on batteries is a way to get them back into their brand of an ever expanding line-up of cordless tools and accessories. The goal is to convert everyone away from corded and ni-cad, and get you to join their "ecosystem, " then you have the batteries and will buy more tools, lawn and garden equipment, etc.

Interesting Jim. TTI, which owns and makes Milwaukee, also makes Ryobi and Rigid power tools. Rigid is not owned by TTI though, only licensed. I can't believe they didn't come with Lithium batteries in 2016. My Milwaukee combo set from 2010-11 has Lithium and everything still works great(I use them daily). The chuck on the drill broke a few months ago but an aftermarket was easy to put on. That being said, the warranty makes you wonder how Rigid is making any money.
