After electric locomotives took over the Hampi Express, I eagerly awaited the day when this train would make a triumphant return with a diesel locomotive. That day finally arrived, when a route-diversion meant that the Hampi Express would take the unelectrified Ballari-Chitradurga-Arsikere-Bengaluru route. The icing on the cake was that the diesel power given to this train was a pair of Moula Ali WDG3A locomotives (13413+13446) !
