The 2024 IWF World Cup was a thrilling climax to Olympic qualifying period for the sport of weightlifting. The -81kg category was electric as we saw total domination from Ri Song-chong of North Korea.

It was super interesting seeing some of these lower tier athletes from countries which don't yet have longstanding and established weightlifting programs. Of course the weights were low compared to the elite lifters in this category, but they made some really beautiful lifts on an international stage and that was really satisfying to watch!

Feel bad for Ri Chong Song. One of my favorite lifters to watch. He’s so good, but not a lot of competition nor a respected weight class. He’s so shredded so I don’t think 73kg is possible. 89kg might also be out of reach and NK probably has a good 89kg lifter already. So he’s forever stuck here
