Woke was first used by a black folk singer when black people were being lynched in the states, he said if you drive through this town at night you better stay woke.

These policies were meant to ensure that lower qualified 'culturally dominant' candidates weren't chosen over better qualified minorities.

Clearly, it's been so easy for politicians to spin it for their own nefarious purposes.

DEI does not and never has meant lowering standards, it is a fallacy spread by the far right.

Then how did 90% of trump’s cabinet get their jobs? They definitely deserve or merit them!

This caller has got it right I'm black and all I want is someone who can do the job.

This host doesn't care what anyone says. He has made up his mind.

ABSOLUTELY! People should be hired solely on merit and that’s exactly why DEI exists (who wants to tell him) 🤦🏾‍♀️. It’s there to ensure highly skilled and qualified people from diverse backgrounds aren’t overlooked due to unconscious or systemic bias. DEI doesn’t, or at least shouldn’t, lower the bar. It’s about levelling the playing field so everyone is treated fairly.

If people didn't have any bias, the world would be wonderful. Unfortunately the world historically has been filled with biased people.

The irony of where the term woke might possibly come from is that it’s thought the term was first used by a black American writer talking about the dangers of black people risking moving to the south of the USA. He advised them to “stay woke”.

This is what internalised racism looks like.

The caller is missing the point that DEI is all about combatting discrimination not advancing unqualified people.

I love his excuse, wouldn’t you feel safer with people that looked like you? Paraphrasing here but basically he said, no, not if they can’t do their job, it’s not about race, it’s about results. Brilliant

Well said this is what makes us people not what color they are

Imagine thinking people in need of help worry about what colour the person is that helps you.

There is a long history, in the UK and elsewhere, of: black, Irish, LGBTQIA, women all being refused employment, service and housing (etc..) based on those characteristics alone. Woke DEI means companies cannot reject people based on the colour of their skin.

Look at stories like the British train guard Asquith Xavier who was refused a promotion because of his skin colour. This is what life was like before woke DEI.

The caller is absolutely right. The fact he has to explain why people should get jobs is a sad reflection of the times we live in
