I love how he captures the mannerisms of a teenage boy who’s completely lost it. The pulling at his shirt, the movements of his fingers, the pacing around. He’s not even looking at her door he’s in his own world. It’s brilliant. Then when he does say “Veronica open the door please” he says it with lust rather than anger.

When he sings "can we not fight anymore please" something breaks inside me every time i swear

JD is meant to be completely cracked at this point. I always feel like most JDs play it too measured, too calculated, too calm. But JD is a psycho who just snapped, and Jamie does that feckin brilliantly.

his voice is so attractive, especially when he says “come on baby, unlock the door”

Ryan reads more manipulative, selfish psychopath and Jamie reads more emotionally unstable, broken boy who genuinely thinks he’s in the right. It’s not fair to compare them when they’re both going for completely different interpretations of the character

For me personally I find Jamie to be a more successful JD is because he captures the spirit of a broken boy’s anger, sadness and unhinged nature in this number at the thought of losing the first person who made him feel anything remotely positive such as love, lust, affection, etc. Not that Ryan didn’t do a good job because of course he did but I feel like this version of JD is more complex and gives you a closer glimpse into just how twisted his thought process was. At the end of the day, he was just trying to find somebody to love and care for. It’s not as simple as, “oh he’s insane” which some could interpret his character be.

I think the reason I like his meant to be yours more than anyone else's is because he is still ACTING. I've seen a buttload of productions (thanks youtube) and either the JDs will treat it like an opera (just standing there and singing as well as possible), or treat JD like a cringy joker (having him be like what a 12 year old would find 'cool' and how they might think an evil villain would do it). While Jamie act genuinely unhinged, hurt, but still hopeful and like... I totally believe him. He's selling it as if he is doing a monologue instead of a song, focusing on acting. Its great! Its so great in fact that I might be slightly terrified if we ever met. Even though I know he was acting, its just that good.

Both times I saw this live I was blown away by Jamie's performance, especially the last chorus.... Probably the only villain song that actually made me scared for the protagonist because of how perfectly unhinged Jamie played JD

To be fair, Ryan was pretty good JD but the way you hear Jamie being angry, sad and everything at once.. He is and will be my best JD

Things I love about this

1. His tone change
2. His mannerisms
3. His little gu twirl
4. The little sound effects
5. How when he says that he “can’t do this alone” he holds the gun up to him before putting it down while singing “but I will if I must”
6. The emotions
7. THE
8. The blue/white light that goes on him whenever he says “meant to be yours” because he’s going into this little world in his head where they’re meant to be but then when he says “you were meant to be mine” the light disappears leaving him in reality and showing the darkness that is now his mind
9. His little crab arms with his coat

From 2:38 to 2:50 gives me such chills - especially when he first sort of growls "veronica"

veronica: i'll scream and my parents will call the police
JD: does way more then scream and her parents dont care

Ryan is good, but Jamie captures the essence that JD is feeling. He sounds heartbroken, angry, sad, and he's also explaining what he is going to do for her. You can see that he is really going insane, and he is focusing on the acting and not just the singing. This performance actually scares me, and you need an actor like this who captures the feelings and thoughts of the character they are portraying. And I think that's most important.

The random aggression he puts into certain words out of nowhere is amazing and i love it (example being " *THOSE* assholes are the key" "they made you blind *MESSED UP* your mind" "they "we'll plant *THIS NOTE* explaining why they died")

I looked this up bc this specific version was trending on tiktok, and I was not disappointed.

Like- I know everyone in the comments is saying this but I think he captured JD so well, like I wasn't at all afraid of the original casting's JD, more than I was sympathetic.

And in this version I wasn't scared until he screamed "YOU'D BETTER COME SEE WHAT THEY REALLY SIGNED." Like- I paused the video and asked myself why I felt scared, it was that good.

This was just good all around and I love it. Literal chills. Or it could just be my cold room-

When he whines the “can we not fight anymore please, can we not fight enough” hit so different, he captured it so damn well
