The player who in his hometown, playing for his city club FK Željezničar, was called "kloc"(log, block, clumsy player) by the fans, reached the very top through the Czech Republic, Germany, England and Italy and became the main player of his national team. Throughout his career, he played for lower-mid clubs (including City in that time, which is on the rise from that generation).
I'm sure he could have played when he was younger for top clubs, but at the end of his career Inter came as the icing on his career, which speaks volumes about Dzeko as a player that he comes to a big club "at the end" of his career with due respect to the others clubs he played for.
Maybe the transfer was a little late, but I believe that it was more his desire to play for mediocre teams.

If he was English and not Bosnian, I think he would be heard all over the place.

Everybody talk about Benzema, Ronaldo, Suarez, Lewandowski or Aguero and ofc this Players are all worldclass but you will never hear the Name Edin Dzeko. He was always really good and make his Goals. In 738 Games he had 323 Goals and 145 Assists... that's really strong and he is a fair player bc he only got 2 red cards and he needs 162 Minutes to score a goal. Maybe he in underradet bc of his nationality but he always was good, in ManCity, Serie A or Bundesliga, he always was a good striker and always has good scorer
