A wise man once said "cheap phones are getting good and good phones are getting cheap"

Lew hit the mark. The problem with tech youtubers is that they don't have a decent frame of reference in terms of what determining what is good and what isn't. These are people who spend their time using a new product for maybe a couple of months at most before moving on to "test" and review the new one. There are very few devices that they would use for longer periods of time. As a result, of course everything that is new seems good! Hell, everything is like that, from household items to even cars. But try using that item for 1 year, or 3 years. Does it last? How about 5 years, or 7? What is the acceptable time frame for a costly piece of tech to last? It came "good" out of the box but does it STAY good as time moves on? That is what truly sets an item above the competition.

The smartphone market in particular has really stagnated in the past few years, the only thing keeping it fresh are companies like Samsung releasing foldables/rollable phones, aside from that the smartphone industry is very boring

I feel like Dave's videos have evolved from being purely reviews to having the purpose of starting discussions. It's not about the numbers and the specs themselves anymore, it's about what they actually mean for the user.

There is a German Tech Channel "Alexi Bexi" and I love his take on this matter. He's basically only doing a video on a device when he has something new to say. Maybe a wider perspective on the industry or a different take. It's very hard but he does it so well.
Also he does a lot of Chinese Garbage Tech stuff as fluff videos.

Why the mics sound not as good as in their videos?

They gotta keep/create the hype up, so the people will get invested into it and possibly purchase it on a continuous cycle; that will drives the economy & incentivized the brand/company to create more stuff. Maybe once in a awhile, you'll get some game changing stuff but that's about it basically.

Sometimes you gotta look at products from a money scarcity view. Comparing laptop A or B or C at this price point what is the best bang for your buck or should you wait for an upcoming product. That would be useful.

The mobile platform is on the extreme, now companies seem to just rebuild casings onto what's already on the market but inflating the prices

Dave2D is one of the few YouTuber's who realizes that there are actually two 't's in 'important'. It's not impor-ant...it's imporTanT

I think things like thermals are still very important. My 4 year old Alienware 15 R3 is baaaad. I had to get it fixed early on because it was crashing constantly due to thermals. It stopped crashing, but it still throttled and is only getting worse. It has a GTX 1070 in it and I have to run my games on like medium settings and have one of those laptop fan stands running so that it doesn't throttle. It's pretty bad. Luckily, I found 1 Asus G15 in stock on a Canadian website so hopefully I was quick enough to grab it.

If youtube tech reviews was a thing in the 90's reviewers would be comparing what hardware has the easiest driver to find.
