440 Big Block Plymouth GTX 'Saloon Racer' Making 625 Naturally Aspirated HP!

This was such a cool episode to shoot. Robert is a tech guy and has a couple of businesses but as a passion project he builds 1 car every year in the style of the old saloon racers and does all of the work himself except for paint & body and engine building. Pretty amazing from a tech guy. This Plymouth GTX not only looks cool af but makes the right power and torque with that 440 big block...this is the "Mopar or No Car" approach so sit back and enjoy the ride...

One of the coolest videos I've seen in a bit. That built is awesome and the builder seems like the kind of guy you end up being friends with after you're his client

I always thought I was a Ford guy who was also partial to Chev's but these are my favourite Plymouth. Having said that, there aren't any cars I have seen on Autopia LA I haven't liked. Maybe I am not a Ford guy after all, maybe I just love cars.

My uncle would always talk about his green 67 4 speed 440 6 pack gtx he sold in the late 80s to pay for his wedding, which ended badly. 😢

My dad was a Vietnam vet and when he got back he bought a 68-69 GTX 440 super commando I put 69 cause I cannot remember which it actually was! Even when he was alive I had to ask which it was! They both look the same to me but he could tell you every bolt on it! He worked for Chrysler and my mom worked for Fisher Body in Detroit. Dad raced 440 class and some bracket racing! He owned the 440 class his cars best 1/4 Mile was 11.11 126mph on slicks obviously it wouldn’t do those times on street tires! He would drive to the track swap out back tires and run 11’s and drive home with the A/C on setting on premium leather seats 💺 with his trophy and cashiers check in tow! He was one of those guys you heard of who had access to the garage at work to work on their own cars on weekends and nights! So he had all those guys to help make the car the fastest it could be! He said he took it to a speed shop to see what they might be able to do to make it quicker and they said nothing we could only make that car slower said you already got the best of everything and some stuff we never seen before 😮😂

This guy has this style down. I love the "trans am" or "nascar esque" style.
My hot rod won't be shinny, will probably still have some dents and dings, but with this same style.
Living on a dirt road makes shiny things kinda difficult.

26:00 - Me in my Mustang several times. 😂 My dad used to tell me, if it don't leak oil or break down every now and then, then it ain't a hotrod.

Hell yeah man. I love the Goodwood Festival racing with all the American muscle among the tiny euros. Also, right on with the Plymouth.

3:45 I have never seen an under the hood bomber style look like that in the 1950s, or the 60s.

This is a car that I can relate too. I, too spent time at Riverside raceway in the 60's as a kid and was highly influenced by this era of cars. Subscribed!

I own (2)5.0s, [89&16] I've owned small block chevelles and big block GM products (Pontiac, Olds, Chevy), and I can arguably say nothing NOTHING SOUNDS BETTER THAN THE FACTORY STOCK TONE OF A '68 MOPAR 383 . Dodge, Plymouth, Chrysler 60s, and early 70s just had an engine exhaust tone that no other manufacturer could beat.

This is one of my favorite cars you’ve ever had on! The simple black rims with the knockoffs are absolutely perfect, and all the little custom touches he did just make it over the top cool 👍
