In my opinion every master/teacher should be proud if his/her students that became stronger/better than the master/teacher. No matter if we talk about karate or any other martial art, math, medicine, whatever. In the end this is how human kind evolves.

My understanding is that Oyama wasn't scared just because of Ashihara's abilities, but rather his lack of concern for opponents/ mentality; he lacked restraint.

Currently working on the 2nd kyu curriculum to transfer my rank from another organization to Ashihara. I think Ashihara, as a fight-oriented karateka, instinctively re-built the teaching methods we see in the bubishi. Start with kihon, move to short partner drills, then build the new kata from these blocks.

Traditional kata aren't introduced until much later (1st kyu), so the practitioner has a chance to develop an understanding of fighting movement and mechanics. This way the kata really comes alive as an advanced solo fighting exercise instead of an abstract dance-y thing that you don't really understand until much later in your training.

Ashihara karate emphasized tai sabaki even more than Kyokushin. Oyama sensei wasn’t afraid of Ashihara in the sense that he was fearful of him as a man but he was afraid of his influence.

I was a Ashihara student. Kancho Hideyuki Ashihara had passed away more than 2 decades ago.

The essence of Ashihara Karate is in Tai sabaki (体捌き). Position ourselves for counterattack, usually from the opponent's blindspot.

Ashihara is considered as a type of MMA based on the "unorthodox techniques". We proudly call this as street fighting Karate. A crash course for self defense.

I learned my first lesson in Karate from the book of Mas Oyama, the Vital Karate and I improved my Karate from it !

I ended up learning sabaki from boxing, kickboxing because kyokushinkai doesn’t focus much on footwork. If anyone willing to take up full contact karate, I would suggest Ashihara and Enshin karate. Never goes wrong.

kyokushin has many styles that is derived and heavily influenced kyokushin. there is enshin kaikan, shidokan(not the other shidokan), kudo or daido juku karate, byakuren kaikan(shorinji kempo and kyokushin hybrid), seido juku or seido kaikan and shinken shobu(the punching to the head)

I highly doubt Mas Oyama expelled him because he was scared of his power. Most likely he was being naughty and not listening.
