I hope you find this video a little helpful, especially for those wondering about the products and techniques of my underpainting process.

Obviously, there is so much more information we can pack into this topic, but I just wanted to share the basics of "what is underpainting", "what are the benefits", and the process I have developed that works for me.

What work for me won't necessarily work for you, but I will advise experimenting, finding out what you like, and what excites you, and start developing your own way of creating.

I share only a few reasons why I love this process and why I prefer the color, but I can go on and on, finding more reasons why I specifically fell in love with this process.

I ve recently started enjoying the application of gesso to prevent the canvas later on absorbing the paint

Just to add, it would be better to mix in some matte acrylic medium (not glossy) with the paint if you will use it as an underpainting for oil paints.

I loved seeing the technique you’re using, thank you for sharing! I can’t wait to try pan pastel and acrylic under my next oil painting.

Your process is very interesting and you use some of the materials I too enjoy using. Charcoal, black pan pastel. I also like to use black with a splash of orange or yellow. It was interesting to see that you don't need to use fixative before adding your transparent glaze. I might have to try that. Your artwork came out amazing, very well done. Onwards !!

Hi.
I'm struggling to understand how many different colors I should use for underpainting for a landscape with 4 distinct shapes of different predominant colors for each. eg. Venice Sunset:
1. Orange and a little blue-red Sky
2. Water with Reflections of sky and architecture
3. Pastle walled buildings with brown-red roofs
4. Slightly blue-green palr colored domes.
Which color should I use if only one?
Or should I use complementary colors for underpainting those 4 major shapes?
I would really appreciate it if you could make me understand the process and the logic behind it. 8:08
