Good job. I'm seriously considering my next tractor will be a 425. I might be reluctant as it would require a completely different set of attachments which are very expensive and somewhat hard to find. A comment about your discussion of available attachments is that every one of the attachments you mention is available with older models so there's nothing new there. Just different. I personally don't consider the mower driveshaft to be an enhancement over belt driven. It soaks up a lot of power and just too many extra unneeded parts to wear out. (And they do). It's nice you included a video of the four-wheel steer. I've always wondered if there is real value in having that. One thing I was impressed with the 420 was its tight turning radius vs. the 300 series. It would easily turn inside the circle of a 317 even though it's a much larger tractor. One thing I'm not clear about is if the four-wheel steer can be disabled. Maybe you can answer that. Thanks for the very good video.Well done.

I bought my 425 brand new in 1993. I still love it.

Nice machine there. My 425 AWS is one of my best mowing machines.

Wow, that big tractor really moves around that little yard with 4WS!

Mine is identical to that: aws, 54" deck, 3pt, and pto. It's been a good one; bought new in 1995, still mow and plow snow every year. Question: I keep hearing/reading about the steel cam. What's in it now and how catastrophic is a failure. I have 875 hours, always parked inside. Thanks.

Nice video. Loader not recommended on 425 all wheel steer. Also my 425 has no problem running a 60 inch deck-- even in high grass.

I had an x300 that lasted 750 hours. I could put it Back together though. I have an LA150 it had a 44 cubic inch briggs then at 550 hours it failed I put a 40 cubic inch briggs and it is doing well. I would like to get a 425 John Deere it is a heavier buit tractor than the LA150 and the X300 Some box store John Deeres arent the John Deeres you would expect to be good quality machines from a Dealer although the box store units can be sold at the dealers also. Cub Cadet Simplicity Also made heavy duty garden tractors the Cub Cadet xt2 Is a heavier duty mower than a XT1. The 782 882 models are very reliable from what ive heard ive heard the same for the Simplicity sunstar models as well. The old 90s and early 2000s Craftsmans are good also cant say the same about the new craftsman tractors.

Somebody near me is selling his John Deere 425 for $2, 000. After watching his video it seems like it might be worth it. A new S160 is like $3, 200, but I don't think its capable of doing all this.

If the deck is shaft driven like the 420/430 its not "shaft driven off the engine". The engine drives the front pto via BELT to the shaft, to the gearbox to another belt. So you still have two sets of belts between the crank and deck.

The power to weight ratio seems terrible to me. An x350 is 500 pounds and has 22hp. Crazy. Hell an S130 is 400 pounds and has 22hp
