With all the satellite imagery and modern tools at our disposal, the fact we can still discover a lost city in the year 2023 is quite astonishing, and that’s what’s happened just recently in the Mexican jungle.

Archaeology game-changing LiDAR technology has revealed a settlement covering more than 124 acres. The site has a core area, located on high ground surrounded by extensive wetlands.

On finding the lost city with the groundbreaking technology, a team of archaeologists trekked some 60 kilometres or 37 miles into the dense Yucatan Peninsula jungles of Southern Mexico and they were certainly not disappointed with what they found. Yes, stone structures have now been viewed first-hand and many pictures have now been shared with the world.

LIDAR has changed our understanding of the history of Central and Southern America. The sheer amount of previous unknown structures being discovered is astounding.

I grew up hiking in New Mexico and Arizona. I also visited the Mesa Verde/Chaco Canyon Anasazi ruins. They're more substantial than some think! Most people think the exciting architecture/civilization is the Aztecs and Mayans of Mexico and South America. But, there's some good stuff there!

I later read Charles Mann's 1493(I also grew up reading Crease and Mann's "The Second Creation"). They've found so much exciting things since that book came out!

With each new city found, my hopes increase for the discovery of new Mayan codices. Also someday, perhaps, these sites will be cleared of overgrowth and people can visit them like Chichen Itza and other cleared sites.

I was expecting this to happen. I hope the same protocol is applied to North America, although many may not be ready for what could be found.

Fascinating🖖Matt, you never fail to produce amazing, reality grounded and engineering and science related content. In this and other videos you prove yourself not to be a Johnny One Note. When I was in elementary school and junior high, little authentic information was available about the Maya. In addition to the aliens and Atlantis bunkum, there were people spreading the idea that the Maya and other "original inhabitants" were either Jews, Egyptians or pacifist vegetarians who never made war. We know better now, because people like you do real research and use your little grey cells [homage to M. Poirot] and critical thinking to reveal what our ancestors were really like. Thanks again for all of your efforts and for the unfailingly interesting and informative videos. Kudos, Matt! 🏆🎖🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇

Very interesting findings recently. Wondering why so many of these are not near the coasts, or even near lakes and streams. Has the landscape changed so much since 3000 years?

Lidar technology truly amazes me. It could & should be used over all the most ancient of sites to give humanity some definitive answers to what lies beneath. Fascinating
