My last apartment I had 3 men break in claiming to be maintenance, WHILE I WAS SLEEPING. I moved, and got myself these 2 safety items and a ring camera and I never worry about someone breaking in any more!

I'm 6ft and 220lbs with guns and big dogs, I'm still locking every window and door before bed.

people forget that one of the best locks for awindow/sliding doo, is a stick. Get a thick-ass dowel, cut it to the size of the window and put it against the inside panel that slides.

Every Xmas dollar tree has those door handle decorations with bells.. get those.. you hear bells and you can get prepared with out going near. No gun, get some wasp spray. It’s as direct stream and they will have to go to the er. And always lock every door and window before bed ❤

My husband is 6'6" and 240lbs, and we have 3 strong teenage sons in the house, but I'm ALWAYS making sure to lock up, put on the alarm, and lock the extra latches and bolts. You can never be too safe.

Just remember ladies, those lovely scented glass jar candles aren't just for lighting, and instead of cheap incense holders, find yourself a nice antique iron one. These aren't just decorative, but make for good projectiles to throw at someone's head. I have several small, dense decorative items throughout my home, not just so it could look nice, but if someone manages to get in, they're going to have a heck of a time dodging. I call it "the aesthetic defense system". 😂😂😂

Whenever I moved to a new apt, Dad was there the next day changing my locks and putting up window gates if necessary. Thank you Pop, for looking out for me.

Most important if you have a garage, check to make sure it's closed before going to bed .. Some people forget, others get busy, and others just don't think to close it Be safe..

When I was a boy our house was broken into twice while we weren't home. Since then I lock all windows and have real and fake cameras outside my house. And last but not least a good ol rifle to stop and would be assailants.

As a retired apartment manager I would add CHANGE YOUR DOOR LOCK! Old tenants hold on to keys and not all managers change the locks after previous tenants.
You can bring the door knob to a key Smith and get it tumbled for a new key or buy new knob all for less than $10.
You ARE worth that!
Be safe y'all!

Years ago I was managing condo's. We had the police come out and talk about neighborhood watch. They brought a man with them that was a convicted felon. He use to break into homes. His new job was home safety. We had 22 units and he went around and got inside all but one. That one was mine (i could break into it). He said that he never had seen so many locks in a condo. I was happy that he couldn't get in. I have had someone come into my home in daylight. It was something that I never want to happen again.

On those deadbolts like shown in the first clip, you can buy a thing I call a "flip lock" that you flip up over the lever and it acts like a person sitting there holding the lock locked, if that makes sense. Also, add a stronger piece of metal plating into the doorframe where the deadbolt actually inserts, one that is screwed with thicker, longer screws so it's harder for a person to just kick the door in. The bar is a nice touch too, also just invest in a Ring doorbell. Just do it. It brings so much peace of mind.

As a large dude. Those things are worthless. Guys my size can get through all of that easily.
You need to get armed and trained. Every woman should be armed and trained. You’d be amazed at how that paranoia goes away when you realize what you are capable of.
Horror movies also lose their appeal because you start looking at situations as if you were there and armed.. suddenly the world isn’t scary because you know you have the tools to stop a threat and the training to stop a threat.

another tip! if youre accepting a delivery or answering the door, shout “ill get it!” when answering the door so it sounds like youre not alone.

We used a strong stick or metal pole that fit perfectly in the bottom of the track of the sliding glass doors growing up.

This is a great reminder because there are a lot of people that get robbed simply because they didn’t lock the front door or a window.

Sadly, some people neglect to lock their doors. I'm glad you have the sense to.

I’m a guy that lives alone. I am 6’4” 275lb power lifter. I sleep with an assault rifle, .357 revolver and a katana right next to me.
Anxiety is just intelligence if it is manifested correctly.

Another tip. If you have repairmen over close a door to another room and blast the tv so they think someone is in there.

If they don’t go near that particular room (let’s say it’s upstairs) due to where they will be working yell “I got it!!” when you answer the door so they’ll assume someone is in there with you while they are in your home.

I sometimes will say “I’ll let my husband know” as if to infer he’s somewhere in the house.
