What’s the LARGEST SD you can use for your Homebrew 3DS?

For those who want to know, the 3DS checks the entire SD card before booting up. No matter how full the SD card is. This is why it takes longer with a bigger card.

NOTE: 128gb is the highest you can go without experiencing glitches, going over will glitch some things out like gba games.

Note that you can use any size as long as you format the Micro SD to Fat 32 and you set the "Partition Size" to 32k. Any higher partition size will cause glitches in your GBA games. I use Guiformat to do this

128gb sd's slowdown is not significant enough to offset the storage, would defo recommend

If you don’t care about slowdown and minor glitches, 256GB is more than enough.

I got a 256 GB card in my new 3dsxl and it takes about just under two minutes to boot up. Sometimes Twilight Menu has those glitchy bars under GBA games, but I mean that's really the only issue I've seen. I've heard sometimes it can crash though so I just make sure to back up all of my save data once or twice a week.

Man I used to have the Sea Foam green and white 2DS, apparently it’s super rare and worth insane money today. Had i not dropped mine, completely ruining the internals, id have one of the most valuable models out there. It still looked brand new when i dropped it too. Was only last year.
I managed to find a brand new, in box, New 3DS XL SNES edition. Let’s just say my old 2DS woulda paid for this one, but I like rare things so… NP🤪

128 is all you need. 50 of the best 3ds games takes up about 50-70gbs of space and all the good ds / gba games will take up like 10g of space

Still got like 50gs left for anything else you’d ever wanna add

Modify the unit allocation when formating in a fat32 format software to a larger number to increase speeds.

I don't know how accurate this is but I did read that SD Cards over 128GB will cause problems with GBA and DS games.

I know there's no way to change it but I really wish they went about this differently. The way I see it, you should be able to have whatever storage you want and not experience slowdown or glitches.

Is 1TB overkill? Probably, but if you wanna have all the games you want to have all downloaded at the same time without issues then you should be able to.

I have a 62 gb card on my 3ds and I can confirm it takes like 1 minute to boot💀
