Residential buildings in Mariupol enter the winter season windowless – Mariupol city authorities

Since the start of the Russian full-scale invasion of Ukraine and til April, the Russian army destroyed up to 90% of the buildings and all critical infrastructure in Mariupol. According to the adviser to the mayor of the city, residents of high-rise buildings are likely to be left without heat in winter season. The situation is the same in private houses - in most of them electric heating was installed, but there is no electricity supply in most parts of the city. This is going to escalate into a humanitarian catastrophe of extreme proportions from the state that it is already in. You have 200, 000 people in what is left of the city, according to this reporter, most of whom are internal refugees not being permitted to leave and migrate to other regions of Ukraine. They are being held in something akin to a large concentration camp without proper food and no protection from winter. A great many civilians are going to die in this city, as elsewhere, over the winter and maybe that’s what the Russians want. This city should be another singular issue on the floor of the UN, not that they are able to make a difference other than to put the Russians on another defensive stance. Maybe one day the UN will have a rotational Security Council and blue helmets with teeth; but I doubt it.

Mariupol is as significant a human tragedy as any that has ever happened. That the world has let Putin turn this amazing city into a toxic playground for the delight of his orcs is pathetic.
